Associate Attorney - Litigation/Appellate

Bloomington law firm with considerable litigation and appellate practice seeks applications for an associate attorney position focused on appellate practice and substantive litigation in civil rights/government liability defense, employment, and/or land use. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with government entities and participate in cases from the outset of litigation through appeal, helping shape legal strategy, preserve issues for appellate review, and often develop the appellate record from the start. The associate will develop motion and appellate advocacy skills while gaining trial experience that informs effective appellate practice. This position also involves periodic travel to clients and courts located throughout Minnesota. Licensed applicants with 1-5 years experience preferred, including judicial clerkship or other transferable experience.

Job duties emphasize legal research, analysis of issues, and drafting appellate briefs and substantive motions in state and federal court, as well as oral argument opportunities in motion and appellate practice. The associate will also participate in discovery, trial preparation and assistance, and post-trial motion practice, with opportunities to develop the record and preserve issues for potential appeal throughout litigation. Applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication, writing, research, and computer skills. Salary dependent on qualifications.
