What they need

First Baptist Dallas is a thriving church community living for Jesus Christ. We have been serving and doing ministry for over 150 years. First Baptist Dallas was built on the Bible and continues its mission to “Transform the world with God’s Word…one life at a time.

As members of the Green Team at First Baptist Dallas and DFW’s top workplaces, we are called to serve with commitment, enthusiasm, and excellence. We embody teamwork, integrity, and a passion for making a meaningful impact while honoring God through our service.

First Baptist Dallas seeks Christ-centered professionals who want to join a team of disciplined and talented superstars committed to working together to accomplish our mission. The Associate Content Writer will turn oral presentations (sermons), manuscripts, or product details into compelling copy that attracts readers and supports marketing and ministry goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create magazine articles and condense/reformat devotionals

    • Research sermon database to find articles that fit the monthly magazine theme. Clean up the transcripts from the rough recordings and turn them into a usable format for the magazine. This requires quite a bit of cleanup, factchecking, Scripture checking, etc.
    • Search theme-related devotional content that hasn’t already been used in previous magazines, cutting the word count as directed.
  • Create Q&A content for broadcast—

    • Research available sermon and book content that applies to the questions asked, clean up the transcripts from sermon recordings, and use them to create succinct, clear answers ready for broadcast. Requires cleanup, factchecking, Scripture checking, etc.
  • Clean up weekly sermon transcripts (roughly 2-4 days per week)

    • Copyedit the weekly sermon transcript from the recordings (an intense process that involves polishing all content from spoken to written format, adding paragraph breaks, figuring out where all the sermon subheadings should be placed, checking facts, verifying all Scripture quotes, research and verify all quotes and illustrations and create citations, format for e-devo and also for print devotional.
    • Do similar work on historic sermon library.
  • Assist Lead Content Writer with PTV daily devotionals

    • Clean up and adapt sermon transcripts to create the devotionals needed for our annual Daily Devotional (e-devos and print book). Edit previously used devotionals that constitute roughly 1/3 of each print devotional—this step still requires fixing style inconsistencies, polishing content, updating time-sensitive content, checking facts, etc.
  • Proofreading Pathway Publishing projects in layout

    • Proof the entire devotional in galleys, and act as proofreader for other books and resources.
  • Create database of PTV resources/ sermon content

    • Go through resource library to create a database to manage how many times we’ve used (and repeated) content in print resources. Add hyperlinks to tag themes or key words to help publishing team find relevant existing content needed for new resources.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Writing & Communication: Impeccable command of grammar, syntax, tone adaptation, and storytelling.
  • Technical Tools: Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (WordPress, HubSpot, Squarespace) and writing apps (Grammarly, Google Workspace).
  • Education & Portfolio: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or Communications, backed by a strong writing portfolio.
  • Time Management: Ability to balance multiple deadlines and adapt quickly to shifting project priorities
