Through our trusted brands, including Discount School Supply®, Really Good Stuff®, Colorations®, Excellerations®, Environments®, and Millhouse, we help educators create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning environments that inspire children to learn, explore, and grow.
We are proud to be Great Place to Work® Certified™ for 2025–2026 and committed to making a meaningful impact on education.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a strategic, creative, and commercially minded Associate Director, Learning Ecosystem Solutions to help transform educational spaces into comprehensive, high-impact learning environments.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional who understands early childhood education, classroom design, educational furnishings, and turnkey learning solutions.
Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer, this highly visible position will serve as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to our sales organization, helping develop and deliver comprehensive solutions for childcare organizations, school districts, Head Start programs, and other educational institutions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of educational expertise, space-planning capabilities, consultative selling experience, and a passion for creating innovative learning environments.
Rather than selling individual products, you will help customers envision and implement complete educational spaces that combine classroom furnishings, instructional materials, and developmentally appropriate learning resources.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Environment Design & Solutions Development
- Design comprehensive classroom and facility solutions supporting early childhood and K–8 education.
- Develop innovative learning environments focused on STEM, social-emotional learning (SEL), special education, and English language learners.
- Create turnkey solutions for new childcare center openings, classroom renovations, outdoor learning spaces, and district pre-K expansions.
- Develop classroom layouts, space plans, product recommendations, bills of materials, and installation requirements.
- Collaborate with merchandising and product development teams to identify opportunities for new products and solutions.
Strategic Sales & Customer Engagement
- Partner with sales leadership and strategic account teams to support complex, high-value educational projects.
- Serve as a trusted subject matter expert during presentations to corporate childcare organizations, school districts, Head Start agencies, and other institutional customers.
- Lead solution discovery, design consultations, proposal development, and project planning.
- Help customers translate educational objectives into practical, scalable learning environments.
- Support new business development and expansion opportunities with existing strategic accounts.
Learning Space Innovation & Industry Partnerships
- Lead the development and ongoing enhancement of our Monterey, California, showroom as a destination for customers to experience innovative learning environments.
- Establish relationships with architects, interior designers, educational consultants, and school facilities planners.
- Collaborate with external partners to identify emerging trends in educational space design and classroom innovation.
- Help position Excelligence as a preferred partner for new educational facilities and classroom transformation projects.
Thought Leadership & Industry Engagement
- Develop educational resources, planning guides, whitepapers, and presentations focused on innovative learning environments.
- Build relationships with industry organizations, early childhood education experts, and educational design professionals.
- Represent Excelligence at industry conferences, customer events, webinars, and professional forums.
- Share insights on best practices, emerging trends, and research-based approaches to classroom and learning environment design.
Sales Enablement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Train and support sales teams on comprehensive learning environment solutions and consultative selling strategies.
- Partner with marketing to develop customer presentations, case studies, solution guides, and sales materials.
- Collaborate with sales operations, merchandising, installation teams, and customer experience teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Track solution opportunities, customer engagement, and project outcomes using Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in early childhood or K–8 learning environment design, educational furnishings, classroom planning, facility design, or related educational solutions.
- Demonstrated experience designing, selling, or delivering turnkey educational environments, including new center openings, classroom renovations, or school facility projects.
- Strong understanding of classroom furnishings, instructional resources, developmentally appropriate learning environments, and educational space planning.
- Working knowledge of STEM, social-emotional learning, special education, and English language learner environments.
- Familiarity with early childhood education standards and guidelines, including NAEYC, ECERS, and applicable state licensing requirements.
- Experience developing classroom layouts, product specifications, bills of materials, and project installation requirements.
- Strong consultative selling, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage senior executives and educational decision-makers.
- Proficiency with space-planning or design tools, such as CAD, 3D room planners, or comparable applications.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 40–50% throughout the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
- Experience working with major childcare organizations, Head Start programs, public school districts, or educational facilities.
- Established relationships with educational architects, designers, or facilities planning professionals.
- Experience supporting large-scale classroom furnishing projects, new childcare center openings, or district-wide educational initiatives.
- Experience developing or managing educational showrooms, demonstration spaces, or design studios.
- Background working with educational product manufacturers, distributors, or providers of comprehensive classroom solutions.
