Operating across the rail, data centre, nuclear, utilities, transport and defence sectors, the business delivers a wide range of services across the construction market, including MEP engineering, BIM, surveying, civil and structural engineering, and lightning protection.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to play a key role in establishing and growing the Manchester office. Working closely with the Directors, you will combine technical leadership, project delivery, client relationship management and business development to build a strong regional presence, develop new and existing client relationships, and grow a successful engineering team as part of the company's wider growth strategy.

Engineering and Project Delivery

  • Lead and undertake electrical engineering design across rail, infrastructure, buildings and other sectors.
  • Review designs, calculations, reports, specifications and technical drawings.
  • Manage project delivery, ensuring deadlines, budgets and client expectations are met.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, including civils, mechanical, public health, architecture, track and signalling.
  • Carry out technical reviews and maintain high standards of design quality.
  • Attend site visits, prepare reports and support project assurance submissions.
  • Undertake CRE/CEM duties where appropriately competent and authorised.

Business Development

  • Support the establishment and growth of the new Manchester office.
  • Develop relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Identify new opportunities and support bids, tenders and fee proposals.
  • Help deliver regional business plans and revenue targets.
  • Develop key accounts across rail, infrastructure, local authorities, contractors, energy, water, highways and property.
  • Support recruitment and the growth of the regional team.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support professional development and chartership.
  • Manage workloads and coordinate internal resources and subcontractors.
  • Promote good engineering practice, quality assurance and effective document control.

Commercial and Compliance

  • Manage project budgets, costs, programmes and scope changes.
  • Monitor project performance and report key issues to the Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, engineering standards and company procedures.
  • Support health and safety, environmental and quality requirements, including CDM, RISQS and ISO processes.
  • Travel as required, including occasional out-of-hours work within the rail environment.

Essential Requirements

  • BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
  • 10+ years' relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical design and multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Experience managing projects, teams, budgets and client relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and experience supporting business development and winning work.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards, legislation and quality assurance procedures.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineering staff.

Desirable Experience

  • Rail industry experience, including Network Rail or TOC projects.
  • CRE/CEM competence and experience.
  • Experience working within a BIM environment.
  • A track record of generating fee income and developing client accounts.
  • Experience establishing or growing an engineering team or regional office.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to help establish a new Manchester office, develop a regional client base and build a team, while working closely with the Directors to shape the future growth of the business.
