Introduction

The A/SA will support the Financial Management team in delivering accurate and timely entity-level financial close and reporting. Beyond core accounting responsibilities, the Associate will analyse entity and investee financial performance, assess accounting classifications for new investments, and support valuation updates and asset-level reviews. The Associate will be expected to translate financial and operating data into actionable insights and practical recommendations that improve management decision making, valuation discussions and risk oversight.

The role offers broad exposure to financial reporting, investment analysis, stakeholder management, and the practical application of AI and technology to improve finance processes. It is suited to a curious, detail-oriented, and analytical individual who is comfortable learning quickly and working across accounting and investment-related matters.

Responsibilities

Entity-Level Financial Close and Financial Statements Preparation

  • Perform month-end and year-end financial close activities,
    • Prepare journal entries, including accruals and other close-related adjustments.
    • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for key financial statement line items.
    • Prepare tax provisions, including supporting computations and reconciliations, as part of the financial close process.
    • Maintain complete and accurate bank records and perform timely bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
    • Work with stakeholders from Finance Operations to reconcile accounting and transaction records, investigate variances, resolve discrepancies and reconciling items, and support timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare entity-level financial statements from trial balances and accounting records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal requirements.
  • Prepare accurate and timely survey submissions to the government statistics department, including collating, validating, and reconciling the underlying financial data.
  • Support group and management reporting activities, including review of reporting packs, centralised processes and controls, and submissions from reporting entities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on reporting timelines, deliverables, data queries and follow-up actions.

Financial Statement Analysis and Valuation Assessment

  • Analyse entity-level and investee financial statements to identify key performance trends, movements, financial risks, and early warning indicators.
  • Assess the appropriate accounting classification of new investments in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal requirements.
  • Support valuation updates for funds and partnerships using underlying mark-to-market valuations provided by general partners, and for direct investments using adjusted net asset value and other relevant valuation metrics.
  • Support asset-level valuation readiness and review by understanding key valuation metrics, asset performance, and financial projections, including preparing mark-to-market outreach files and coordinating inputs from relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform performance analytics and risk monitoring through reviews of investee financial statements and operating metrics, comparison of actual results against historical performance, budgets, and projections, and escalation of material variances or anomalies.
  • Prepare concise analysis and observations to support management review, valuation discussions, and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
  • Translate recurring analysis into actionable insights by identifying drivers, implications, scenarios, risks and recommended actions; present findings clearly to support timely and better-informed decisions.

Investee Data Intelligence

  • Perform data quality, reliability and validation checks to support quarterly mark-to-market valuation processes and related reporting.
  • Support asset-level valuation readiness and review, including understanding key metrics, assessing performance and projections, and challenging inconsistencies or gaps in underlying data.
  • Perform quarterly performance analytics and risk monitoring through review of investee financials and operating metrics, identifying variances against historical performance, budgets and projections, and highlighting anomalies or early warning indicators.
  • Synthesise investee data into meaningful insights on performance drivers, outlook, risks and potential actions, rather than limiting analysis to data compilation or variance reporting.

Financial Process Enhancement and Technology Adoption

  • Drive continuous improvement of financial close, reporting and analytics processes through automation and technology, including AI tools to improve efficiency, consistency, accuracy, while enhancing the depth, timeliness and usability of analysis and management insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, design, test and implement system enhancements, including Workday, Hyperion, SCD and related reporting or workflow tools.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, investment analysis, or a related role would be preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial statements and operating metrics, investigate variances, identify anomalies or early warning indicators, and communicate clear observations and develop practical recommendations for decision makers.
  • Proficiency in investments and valuation concepts such as mark-to-market valuations, adjusted net asset value, earnings and cash flow measures, and comparable-company metrics would be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and financial statements, with the ability to apply this knowledge to journal entries, supporting schedules, tax provisions, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and period-end close activities.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems, transaction data, and large datasets.
  • Experience with Workday Core Financials, Microsoft Power Platform (including Copilot Studio, Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate), Snowflake Cortex AI and Streamlit, or other analytics and automation tools would be advantageous.
  • Curiosity to learn and willingness to use AI and other digital tools to automate tasks, improve analysis, streamline workflows, and enhance the quality and efficiency of processes.
  • Meticulous and organised, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage deadlines and maintain accurate records.
  • Adaptable and willing to take on related responsibilities within the broader Financial Management remit, where reasonably required to meet business needs, with appropriate guidance and support.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate across other internal teams while working independently when required.
