What they need
About the role
The Associate Debug Engineer will be responsible for performing in-depth diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis on high-performance machine learning (ML) servers during the manufacturing and testing phases.
Key responsibilities
- Perform system-level and component-level debugging on ML server platforms (including CPUs, high-density GPUs/accelerators, PCIe switches, memory, and storage) that fail during functional testing.
- Flash, configure, and troubleshoot server firmware (BIOS, BMC, CPLD, FPGA) and operating system environments.
- Extract and analyze system logs (IPMI, SEL, dmesg, OS logs, and test application logs) to identify failure patterns and isolate defective components.
- Isolate hardware faults (e.g., thermal, power, or signal integrity issues) versus software/firmware anomalies.
- Provide clear directions to rework operators for component replacement and verify the server post-repair to ensure the defect has been resolved.
- Accurately document failure modes, debug steps, and final resolutions in the internal bug tracking or Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
- Collaborate directly with product and test engineers to escalate complex, systemic, or unresolved issues, providing detailed diagnostic data to assist in engineering-level investigations.
About you
- Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent technical certification in Electronics, Computer Engineering, IT, or a related field.
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in server hardware troubleshooting, testing, or system integration.
- Strong understanding of x86/ARM server architectures, PCIe topologies, high-speed interconnects, power distribution, and thermal management within high-performance compute nodes.
- Strong command-line experience in Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS), including navigating file systems, managing processes, and retrieving system hardware details.
- Hands-on experience with Baseboard Management Controllers (BMC) and out-of-band management protocols (IPMI, Redfish).
- Familiarity with hardware diagnostic utilities, stress-testing software, and memory/GPU exercisers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing or lab environment.
- Good written communication skills for entering clear, accurate defect logs and shift handover reports.
- Flexible working in shift pattern (Day/Night)
