About Verified Metrics
Verified Metrics is a growing fintech company building software for financial analysis and due diligence.
We are a small, Clojure-first engineering team. We care about simple, thoughtful software, strong data models, and giving engineers real ownership of what they build.
The Role
We’re looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our engineering team. You’ll work closely with our CTO and other engineers to build, test, and improve our product.
You’ll work on real features and production systems, take ownership of assigned tasks, and contribute ideas to technical discussions. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your skills by working with experienced engineers and learning new tools and technologies.
You should have a good foundation in software development, an interest in functional programming, and a willingness to learn.
What You’ll Do
- Build, test, and maintain features across our backend services, APIs, and data model.
- Work on assigned tasks and features, from understanding requirements through to implementation and delivery.
- Write clear, reliable, and maintainable code, following the team's practices and standards.
- Help identify and fix bugs, improve existing code, and keep our systems reliable.
- Learn and work with Clojure, Datomic, and our supporting tools and infrastructure.
- Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code as part of your development workflow.
- Review and test AI-generated code to make sure it works as expected and meets our quality standards.
- Work with the CTO and other engineers to solve problems, discuss approaches, and make technical improvements.
- Ask questions, seek feedback, and share ideas to help improve how we build and maintain our product.
What We’re Looking For
- Professional experience in software development, ideally working on real projects or production systems.
- A good understanding of programming fundamentals, including debugging, testing, and writing maintainable code.
- An interest in functional programming, with practical experience in functional programming concepts or languages preferred.
- Experience using AI coding tools, or a willingness to incorporate them into your everyday development workflow.
- The ability to work independently on defined tasks while knowing when to ask questions or seek guidance.
- A practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to explain your thinking.
- A willingness to learn new technologies, work with an existing codebase, and take feedback from more experienced engineers.
- Good attention to detail and a focus on delivering reliable, high-quality work.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Clojure or another functional programming language.
- Familiarity with Datomic or other database technologies.
- Familiarity with tools.deps, Integrant, Component, core.async, or other parts of the Clojure ecosystem.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
- Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Pi, Eca, or similar tools in software development.
