What they need

USA TODAY Sports is looking for an Associate Sports Video Editor to join our national sports video team. This is an early-career opportunity for a creative, highly motivated sports fan who wants to build a career producing digital video for one of the country's largest sports media brands.

The Associate Sports Video Editor will help edit and publish videos covering the biggest stories, personalities and conversations across sports. You'll work alongside experienced video producers, editors, reporters and on-camera talent to create content for USA TODAY, YouTube, social platforms and other digital audiences.

You’re knowledgeable, passionate, and naturally conversational about the world of sports, especially NFL, NCAA, MLB and NBA, and the rapid growth of women’s sports. You’re creative and intentional about video approaches to storytelling, coverage, and analysis. On

any given day across the sports ecosystem, you know what sports fans are discussing and debating, and how they are consuming this content.

We're looking for someone who wants to learn, experiment, and grow as an editor while helping USA TODAY Sports reach the next generation of sports fans.

Schedule & Availability

Sports don’t operate on a traditional 9-to-5 schedule, and neither does this role. Candidates should be comfortable working nights and weekends based on the sports

calendar, major events and breaking news. West Coast/Pacific Time availability is preferred to help extend our national coverage later into the evening and provide stronger

coverage of West Coast games, events and breaking news.

What You'll Do

  • Edit daily sports videos for USA TODAY Sports across digital, YouTube and social platforms.

  • Help produce videos around breaking news, major sports stories, interviews, analysis and trending conversations.

  • Edit full-length shows, podcasts/vodcasts, interviews and individual segments for digital distribution.

  • Create short-form and vertical video for YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok and other social platforms.

  • Assist producers with the development and production of recurring USA TODAY Sports video franchises.

  • Write headlines, video titles, descriptions and other publishing copy.

  • Publish and optimize videos across USA TODAY Sports digital platforms and YouTube.

  • Stay current on sports news, social media trends, and emerging video formats.

  • Work nights and weekends based on the sports calendar and breaking news.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, video production, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 1–2 years of professional video production experience. College media, internships, freelance work, and other relevant production experience will be considered.

  • Strong knowledge of sports, particularly the NFL, college sports, MLB and NBA, along with an interest in the continued growth of women's sports.

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or similar image-editing tools.

  • Ability to edit video quickly and accurately in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Understanding digital and social video platforms, particularly YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

  • Strong news judgment and an instinct for identifying sports stories and moments that audiences will care about.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and willingness to receive feedback and learn from experienced producers and editors.

Application Instructions

We are eager to learn more about you and how you would fit this role. When applying, don’t limit your submission to a resume. Show us what you’ve produced and how you think

about sports videos.

Please include:

  1. Resume — One to two pages.

  2. Cover letter — Explain how you would approach the role and how you believe USA

TODAY Sports can differentiate its video coverage.

  1. Work samples — Links to 3–6 examples that best demonstrate your producing, editing, storytelling or franchise-development experience.

Samples should demonstrate a range of skills, including, when possible, long-form video, social/vertical video, interviews, and original storytelling.
