Associate Producer

Location: New York, NY

Job Description: The Associate Producer will closely work with news editors and the breaking news team at “the Hub” to create quick-turn videos and cutdowns of our feature content for on-platform, YouTube and social platforms. You are an agile visual journalist who can shepherd a breaking news story from pitch to final cut under tight deadlines. You should have sharp news judgment, a firm grasp of business and economic news and the technical editing skill to craft compelling short-form video independently.

This role will report to the Senior Supervising Producer, Video.

You will…

  • Closely monitor daily news to pitch, research, script and edit relevant, newsmaking videos
  • Edit videos using a mix of footage and motion graphics templates
  • Produce optimized cutdowns and adaptations of WSJ feature videos for onsite and some social channels
  • Manage multiple quickturn projects throughout the day
  • Closely follow social platforms to catch trending news moments and seek permission for content usage
  • Collaborate directly with Storyful to verify user-generated content (UGC) during breaking news events
  • Partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and produce timely videos
  • Adhere to Wall Street Journal editorial standards, legal guidelines, and visual style guides

You have…

  • At least 1-3 years of experience producing end-to-end video content, preferably in a daily news environment
  • A good understanding of and an interest in current affairs and the Wall Street Journal's core topic areas, including business, personal finance, markets, technology, and the economy
  • An ability to write, edit, package and publish short-form videos quickly as the news demands
  • High proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Photoshop (or template-driven motion graphics workflows) is a plus
  • Experience clearing third-party footage and navigating UGC verification under deadline pressure
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working in high-pressure situations under deadline constraints
  • Flexibility to work after standard work hours, depending on the news cycle
