What they need
About Kirk Capital Advisors
Kirk Capital Advisors is an independent wealth management firm in Vienna, Virginia, founded by W. Kirk Taylor, CFP®. We provide financial planning and investment management to individuals and families who want a thoughtful, personal relationship with their advisor.
We’re a small team, so your work is visible and it matters. We also invest in technology, including AI tools for meeting preparation and planning, so our advisors spend their time on judgment and clients rather than paperwork.
The Role
We’re looking for a CFP® professional to work directly alongside our founder as his right hand. You’ll own client meeting preparation, join client meetings, deliver sophisticated financial planning, and assist with trade execution and rebalancing.
This is a demanding role, and we want to be upfront about that. You’ll work side by side with an outgoing, hard-charging entrepreneur in a fast-paced firm where client needs and market events set the schedule. Deadlines are real, priorities shift, and the details matter every time. If you thrive on that kind of energy and want to be deeply involved in a growing business, we’d love to hear from you.
This role is built to grow. With strong performance, it leads to a Lead Advisor position with your own client relationships.
What You’ll Do
Client Meetings & Relationships
- Prepare for every client meeting: agendas, portfolio and planning updates, and open action items, using our AI-assisted prep tools and adding your own judgment.
- Attend client meetings alongside the founder, own the notes and follow-up, and see every action item through to completion.
- Build genuine relationships with clients and become their trusted second point of contact.
Financial Planning
- Build and update financial plans covering retirement income, tax planning and Roth conversions, education funding, insurance, and estate coordination.
- Analyze complex situations and bring clear recommendations, not just data.
- Coordinate with clients’ CPAs, attorneys, and other professionals.
Investment Management
- Assist with trade execution and rebalancing in Tamarac and at Schwab, including cash raises and distributions, investing new assets, and tax-loss harvesting, under the founder’s direction.
- Monitor portfolios for drift, cash needs, and restrictions, and recommend rebalancing actions.
- Maintain model portfolios and accurate, well-documented trading records.
Firm Operations & Growth
- Partner with our Director of Operations on account activity tied to trading and planning.
- Help improve our processes and how we use technology across the firm.
Who You Are
- Outgoing and personable. You enjoy people, build rapport quickly, and are energized by client interaction.
- A problem solver and independent thinker. You dig into complex situations, form your own view, and come with solutions, not just questions.
- Calm under pressure. You stay organized and accurate when deadlines are tight and several things are urgent at once.
- Relentlessly detail-oriented. You check your work and catch what others miss. In our business, small errors matter.
- An owner. You take full responsibility for your work, follow through without being reminded, and keep commitments.
- Proactive. You anticipate what the founder and clients will need next and handle it before anyone asks.
- A team player. You’re committed to the team’s success, roll up your sleeves, and work well side by side with a hands-on, demanding leader.
- Coachable and driven to grow. You welcome direct feedback, learn fast, and want to build toward leading your own client relationships.
- Trustworthy and discreet. You handle sensitive client information with integrity and always put clients’ interests first.
Qualifications
- CFP® certification required.
- 3+ years of experience in financial planning or wealth management, ideally at an RIA.
- Series 65 license, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
- Strong technical planning knowledge: tax, retirement income, investments, and estate fundamentals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort with technology. Experience with Tamarac, Schwab Advisor Center, and financial planning software is preferred.
- Curiosity about using AI tools to work smarter and serve clients better.
What We Offer
- $105,000 – $130,000 base salary, plus a discretionary annual bonus.
- Direct mentorship from the firm’s founder and a clear path to Lead Advisor.
- Health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
- Firm support for CFP® continuing education and FPA membership.
