Audio-Visual Technician (Part-Time)

Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Palm Coast (FL) (‘MCBC’) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Audio-Visual Technician. In this role, the Technician is expected to operate and support the Church’s live sound mixing, slide software, switching cameras for livestream, and fixing gear on the fly as needed. These services are required in support of and working together with the Audio-Visual Ministry team for Sunday Worship Services and other Church events, as assigned. This position is a part of the Church’s Audio-Visual Ministry, reporting to the Ministry Chairperson, directly, and the Director of Operations, indirectly.

Typical duties and responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with keeping every technical system appropriately set-up and running — audio, video and lighting — during Worship Service and other events, as assigned, so that the focus is on the Service or event.
• On audio side (current primary responsibility focus): mixing live sound for Worship Services’ speakers, musicians, soloist and choir, setting input levels at soundcheck, riding faders during the set, managing mics and in-ear monitors, and catching feedback before the room hears it.
• On the video and projection side: running lyric and slide software (currently using ProPresenter), advance cues during songs and the Sermon, as assigned, and switching camera feeds for the livestream and any in-room screens. (May stream to both YouTube, Facebook, and website simultaneously.)
• Lighting: duties may vary, as assigned, and may include bringing up a preset scene, lighting cues to match event programs.

The successful candidate is:

• Cognizant that their working environment is a Church and, therefore, will conduct themselves accordingly in a respectful, cooperative manner, embracing the Church’s core values and mission.
• Available to arrive early to power up and test the system, run a full soundcheck with musicians, troubleshoot a dead mic prior to the start of Worship Services and events, and remain at the end of Services and events to power down, report any issues, etc.
• Expected to be familiar with using audio-visual equipment, in general. MCBC is currently using the Midas M32 digital mixer.
• Comfortable on a digital console and has a working grasp of EQ, gain staging, and monitor mixes.
• Knowledgable regarding how a signal travels from a mic through the stage box, console and speakers, so when something goes silent it can be traced quickly.
• Available for assignment to Sunday morning Worship Services; preference will be given to those with the ability to work a flex schedule in addition to Sundays to cover weekday/weekend events.

Education: A minimum of a HSD/GED required and three years of audio-visual experience, especially on the audio side. Certification a plus. Pay: $100 to $150 per four-hour schedule, subject to pay history and experience. This part-time position is paid for a minimum Sunday work schedule of four (4) hours as assigned, covering equipment set-up, testing, and break-down time, and active event coverage. (Additional event coverage paid at minimum wage, currently $15 per hour.)
