Audit Assistant

About the role

We are seeking an Audit Assistant to join Wong Liu & Partners Butterworth Branch in a full-time capacity. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to develop their audit expertise within a dynamic and reputable accounting firm. Based in Butterworth, Penang, you will play a crucial role in supporting our external audit operations, contributing to the delivery of high-quality audit services to our diverse client portfolio. This position offers meaningful exposure to the full audit lifecycle and the chance to build a strong foundation in external audit practices.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing external audit engagements for clients across various industries
• Perform detailed testing of financial records, transactions, and supporting documentation to verify accuracy and completeness
• Prepare working papers and audit schedules that document audit procedures and findings
• Conduct preliminary analytical procedures and substantive testing on accounts and balances
• Assist with the review of internal controls and risk assessment procedures
• Liaise with client staff to obtain necessary documentation and clarifications during the audit process
• Contribute to the preparation of audit reports and management letters
• Support senior audit team members in meeting audit deadlines and maintaining quality standards
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional audit standards and regulations

What we're looking for

• Professional qualification in accounting (such as ACCA, ICAEW, CA(M) or similar recognised qualification) or currently studying towards such qualification
• Strong understanding of audit principles, procedures, and International Standards on Auditing (ISA)
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and audit software packages
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other local languages is advantageous
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently when required
• Organised approach to managing multiple tasks and tight deadlines
• Professional demeanour and commitment to maintaining high ethical standards
• Willingness to learn and develop expertise in external audit practices
