Government Audit Director

Location: Los Angeles, CA | Schedule: Full-time, hybrid

A public accounting firm is seeking an Audit Director to lead assurance engagements for state and local government clients. This position combines technical oversight, client leadership, team development, and practice growth.

What you’ll do

• Direct multiple government audit engagements from planning through issuance.
• Advise clients on accounting, internal controls, and audit findings.
• Review workpapers, financial statements, and final reports for quality and compliance.
• Manage engagement staffing, schedules, budgets, and client communication.
• Coach managers and staff and contribute to hiring and performance reviews.
• Build relationships with prospective clients and support proposals and new business development.

What you bring

• Approximately 10 years of public accounting experience, including at least two years at the Senior Manager level.
• Significant experience auditing state or local government entities.
• An active CPA license and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Strong command of GAGAS (Yellow Book), GAAS, and Uniform Guidance requirements.
• Experience leading teams, maintaining senior client relationships, and winning new work.
• Ability to work at client sites when needed, including occasional overnight travel.
