What they need

Who Are We?

Haslers is a 10 partner, full-service firm of Chartered Accountants, operating from its own offices in Loughton. The firm was established 75 years ago and has remained independent over the years, mostly growing organically. The firm's diverse clientele spans a multitude of sectors, with a particular focus on serving owner-managed businesses and their entrepreneur owners. Additionally, Haslers expertly caters to UK subsidiaries of large international groups.

Job Summary

We require an Audit Senior to join our Audit and Assurance team, taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of audit assignments for a varied portfolio of clients across a range of sectors.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead audit assignments from planning through to completion, in accordance with UK auditing standards and the firm’s audit methodology.
  • Prepare high-quality audit working papers that clearly document the work performed, evidence obtained and conclusions reached.
  • Identify key audit risks and accounting issues promptly, and communicate these clearly to the Audit Manager and engagement Partner.
  • Manage the on-site and remote audit process, including allocating work, monitoring progress and keeping assignments on timetable and within budget.
  • Supervise, coach and review the work of junior team members, providing clear instructions and timely, constructive feedback.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, build effective working relationships and obtain audit evidence and responses to queries in a timely manner.
  • Clear review points promptly, follow through outstanding matters and help deliver a complete, well-organised final audit file with minimal unresolved queries.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of statutory financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable UK accounting and company law requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and timely time recording, monitor assignment recovery and provide regular progress updates to Audit Managers and Partners.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Accounts, Tax and other specialist teams where input is required for the audit assignment.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, comply with the firm’s CPD, quality management, ethical and independence policies, and apply professional scepticism throughout each assignment.
  • Be alert to developments in clients’ businesses, identify potential additional service opportunities and undertake other tasks reasonably required for the effective running of the audit department.

Who We are Looking For

We require a candidate who is ACA or ACCA qualified, or close to qualification, with recent experience of leading external audit assignments in a UK accountancy practice. The successful candidate should be confident managing assignments and supervising junior staff, and should demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Strong technical audit and financial reporting knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail and professional scepticism
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Confident client communication and team supervision skills
  • Strong IT literacy, including experience of audit and accounts preparation software

A valid UK driving licence would be useful, though not essential, as the role may involve travel to client premises.

The role is ideally full-time, although applications from candidates seeking a suitable part-time arrangement will be considered.
