The Role:

  • Working under the direct guidance and mentorship of a Lead Automation & Controls Engineer, you will gain hands-on experience with industrial control systems in a high-tech manufacturing environment. This co-op provides exposure to real-world projects involving PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, equipment commissioning, and continuous improvement initiatives while contributing to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist the Lead Engineer with the design, integration, and documentation of automation systems and controls.
  • Support PLC logic development, debugging, and optimization (primarily Allen-Bradley/Rockwell) and HMI interface updates to improve cycle time, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Help perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for automation-related downtime, quality issues, and system failures under supervision.
  • Participate in the development and testing of automated inspection systems using vision, sensors, and gauging.
  • Support system commissioning, validation, and acceptance testing activities
  • Assist with risk assessments, safety validations, and compliance checks.
  • Troubleshoot control systems, document findings, and implement recommended diagnostics or improvements under direction.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, electrical schematics, and software version control.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, maintenance, quality) and learn best practices for standardizing automation platforms.
  • Stay engaged with emerging automation technologies and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.

What We Seek:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in industrial automation, controls, and manufacturing systems.
  • Basic familiarity with PLC programming concepts (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell preferred) and HMI/SCADA systems through coursework, labs, or prior projects/internships.
  • Fundamental understanding of industrial networks, electrical systems, and safety practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite for the duration of the co-op term.

Desired Major(s) & Graduation Year:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Graduating 2027 - 2028

Eligibility:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student
  • Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in January through June
  • Must be familiar with the university’s requirements to participate in a co-op program
  • Entegris is not currently hiring candidates for co-ops/internships who will need, now or at any time in the future, Entegris sponsorship through the H1-B lottery.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires the ability to work in office, laboratory, manufacturing, and cleanroom environments. The individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and climbing may be required.
