This is not an entry-level position. Candidates should have relevant hands-on industry experience, a degree in a related field, or a combination of both.

This position is based in Altavista, Virginia. Relocation assistance is not anticipated for this role, and candidates should be able to reliably commute to our office and customer sites.

What You'll Do

As an Automation Engineer / Controls Specialist, you'll work with customers and internal project teams to design, implement, troubleshoot, and support automation systems across a variety of industries.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and supporting PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions
• Designing operator interfaces, dashboards, alarms, and reporting tools
• Integrating PLCs, instrumentation, field devices, and industrial equipment
• Supporting system upgrades, modernization projects, and new installations
• Assisting with industrial data collection, reporting, and database integrations
• Participating in startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support activities
• Working directly with customers to understand operational needs and develop practical solutions
• Supporting project documentation and long-term system maintenance

What We're Looking For

Successful candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Industrial automation
• PLC programming
• SCADA or HMI systems
• Electrical controls and instrumentation
• Manufacturing systems
• System integration
• Industrial networking
• Industrial troubleshooting and technical support

In addition, candidates should possess:

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Effective communication skills
• A willingness to continue learning and developing technical expertise
• A valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites as needed

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following is beneficial but not required:

• Ignition SCADA
• Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms
• SQL databases
• Python or scripting languages
• Industrial networking
• Manufacturing or water/wastewater environments
• Industry certifications related to automation and controls

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
