What they need
Automation / Materials / Laser Engineer
**Location: On-site — West Lafayette, IN **
Role Overview
As client scales its manufacturing systems, they are building out a small cluster of mid-to-late-career engineering roles focused on automating and standardizing production: Automation Engineer, Materials Engineer, and Laser Engineer. Depending on candidate strengths, this may be filled as one or separate hires. All three sit at the intersection of process development, systems integration, and hands-on manufacturing technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Engineer: Develop and integrate automated systems and processes to improve consistency and throughput across Intalus's manufacturing equipment.
- Materials Engineer: Characterize and qualify materials for production use, working closely with process and quality teams.
- Laser Engineer: Develop and support laser-based manufacturing processes and equipment integration.
- Collaborate across engineering, product development, and operations to piece together best-in-class approaches, including work with outside partners/vendors.
- Support the transition from single-machine, single-order operations to multi-site, multi-order manufacturing at scale.
Qualifications
- Mid-to-late career engineering experience (systems/process/product development background).
- Track record delivering product development or systems/technology development work in a production environment.
- Comfortable collaborating with outside companies/vendors to identify best-in-class solutions.
- For Materials Engineer specifically: hands-on experience characterizing and qualifying refractory or transition metals — titanium (Grade 5 / Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 2, and ELI), hafnium, niobium, tungsten, and TZM (a molybdenum-tungsten alloy). Deeper titanium experience maps to more near-term work; tungsten experience maps to mid-term work; steel-focused needs will be defined later.
