About the Role

We are seeking a Project Engineer with a background in controls, automation and industrial engineering to join a growing engineering business.

This is a varied, project-focused position involving the full engineering lifecycle, from initial customer requirements and technical design through to manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning.

Working alongside controls engineers, CAD designers, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with agreed specifications, budgets and timescales.

The ideal candidate will combine technical knowledge of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems with the organisational skills needed to coordinate engineering activities and support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate engineering projects from initial requirements and design through to installation, commissioning and final handover.
• Review customer specifications and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Work with controls engineers on PLC, HMI and SCADA development and integration.
• Assist with system diagrams, electrical schematics, control panel layouts and technical drawings.
• Support the selection of suitable hardware, instrumentation, sensors and control equipment.
• Liaise with suppliers, panel manufacturers, subcontractors and internal engineering teams.
• Prepare and review I/O lists, alarm schedules, test specifications and compliance documentation.
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
• Identify and help resolve technical issues during manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate site activities, installation requirements, logistics and subcontractor work.
• Ensure risk assessments, method statements and health and safety documentation are maintained.
• Produce and update as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals and handover documents.
• Provide technical support during commissioning, warranty periods and site visits.
• Monitor project deadlines, costs, quality and technical compliance throughout delivery.

About the Candidate

We are looking for an engineer with experience in controls, automation or industrial engineering projects who can combine technical understanding with effective project coordination.

You should ideally have:

• Experience in a Project Engineer, Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer or similar engineering role.
• An understanding of industrial automation, electrical control systems and engineering design.
• Familiarity with PLC, HMI and SCADA technologies.
• Experience working with technical drawings, system specifications and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of control panels, instrumentation, industrial communications and associated equipment.
• Experience supporting testing, installation, commissioning or system integration.
• The ability to coordinate effectively with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and engineering teams.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• An understanding of engineering standards, health and safety and project compliance.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to projects being delivered on time and within budget.
