B-Level Automotive Technician / Transmission R&R Technician

O’Neill’s Auto & Transmission is looking for an experienced B-level automotive technician with strong mechanical skills and the ability to perform transmission removal and installation.

We are a long-established independent repair and transmission shop serving the Grand Rapids/Cascade area. We perform both general automotive repair and in-house transmission diagnostics and rebuilding.

What We’re Looking For

We need a technician who can work independently on common automotive repairs and is comfortable removing and installing automatic transmissions and driveline components.

Transmission R&R will be an important part of this position, but this is not a transmission-only job. When transmission work is not waiting, you’ll perform general automotive repair.

Typical work includes:

• Transmission removal and installation
• Drivetrain and related repairs
• Brakes
• Steering and suspension
• Cooling systems
• Maintenance and general mechanical repair
• Basic to intermediate diagnostics

You do not need to be a transmission rebuilder. Transmission rebuilding and advanced transmission diagnostics are handled in-house.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has solid professional automotive repair experience
• Can perform transmission R&R efficiently and correctly
• Can work independently without constant supervision
• Understands how to prioritize work and keep jobs moving
• Takes pride in doing the job correctly
• Communicates well with the rest of the shop
• Is dependable and shows up ready to work
• Is willing to learn and continue developing technically

Michigan State automotive technician certification is required.

ASE certification is preferred.

Compensation

$28–$34 per hour, depending on experience and ability.

We are willing to pay toward the upper end of the range for someone who can step in and independently handle transmission R&R while also being productive on B-level general repair.

Monday–Friday schedule. No weekends.
