Automotive Technician Fixed Term Contract for summer

We are looking for an Automotive Technicians with genuine experience for full time, fixed term employment during our busy summer-season working at BOTH our Auckland and Hamilton branches to carry out vehicle air-conditioning repairs. Automotive air-conditioning experience preferred but not essential for technically competent individuals, training will be provided in the specifics.

The role is fixed-term because demand for automotive air-conditioning diagnosis and repair increases substantially during the summer period. Additional skilled technicians are required to meet this seasonal demand. Employment is offered between mid-November 2026 and late March 2027, with the exact dates to be agreed before employment begins.

Applicants must be willing to work from any of our branches as required (transport provided) with overnight stays as required. Company accommodation is available when working away from an employee's normal base .

The place of work may vary at short notice depending on the skill requirements for each branch based on the varying workload and composition and other staff flows during this peak operating time.

• The successful applicants may be based at either location but may be required to work from any of the company's branches as operational requirements dictate.

We also conduct auto electrical diagnosis and repairs on air-conditioning and other vehicle systems, light transport refrigeration, portable fridge repairs, roof top vehicle AC installations and repairs, mechanical servicing and repairs, and all manner of other maintenance requirements on caravans and motor homes.

Job Description:

• Diagnose and repair automotive air-conditioning & heating in vehicle air-conditioning systems between our workshops in Auckland and Hamilton.

• Mobile call outs.

• Install vehicle air-conditioning equipment and components, including condensers, compressors and evaporators.

• Competently work without direct supervision removing and reinstating parts

• Confidently translate evaluations of faulty vehicles into sales.

• Other mechanical, auto electrical and other repairs as required

• Workshop and equipment maintenance

Key Terms & Conditions

• This is a full time, fixed term position during our busy summer season
• Ordinary hours are 0800-1630 Monday to Friday.  Minimum guaranteed hours per week are 40.
• Remuneration is between $37.00-$45.00/hour based on experience.
• Our business is summer seasonal so your availability for extra hours and hard work over the summertime is essential.  Several hours of paid overtime can be expected each week including rostered and extra Saturdays.
• If asked, you must work up to an additional 10-hours overtime per week including rostered and extra Saturdays, to cater for the seasonal customer demand. In recognition, Availability Compensation is paid per ordinary hour worked at a rate of an additional $50/week for 40 ordinary hours (pro rata), plus your hourly rate for any overtime hours worked, up to 10 hours per week.  Further overtime is by mutual agreement only and compensated for at your normal hourly rate.
• In addition, in recognition of your skill and dedication to our business during this important time of year, we pay a Completion Bonus totalling $3,840. The bonus accrues weekly and is payable at the conclusion of the fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance and compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Time off towards the end of the contract can be provided to facilitate you finding alternative employment.
• Leave will be consistent with NZ employment law.

Minimum Qualifications & Work Experience

• Experience in automotive diagnosis and repairs (minimum 2 years).
• Proficiency removing and installing key automotive air-conditioning components, preferred.
• Able to work vehicles independently and without direct supervision once training complete
• Able to drive competently, with a New Zealand Driver's Licence or International Driver's Licence
• English language skills sufficient to follow and complete job cards, carry out quoting, training and day-to-day interactions with customers and co-workers.
