What they need

An AV Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of autonomous vehicle systems during testing and deployment. This role requires high levels of situational awareness, attention to detail, and adherence to operational protocols. The AV Operator acts as the first line of defense in maintaining system integrity and public safety while providing valuable feedback to engineering teams.

Who are we? At Verne, we're building an ecosystem to progress our society through a journey of curiosity and innovation. Named in honor of Jules Verne "the man who invented the future,". We are the first European solution for autonomous journeys. We adopt an integrated approach, including vehicle design, infrastructure development, and the full digital experience.

As a growing startup, we thrive on curiosity, innovation, and bold ideas. If you’re ready to make your mark in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, this could be the role for you. What will you do?

  • Operate prototype autonomous vehicles to support AD activities (data collection, testing, etc.).
  • Manage data transfer from test drives to secure cloud storage, ensuring compliance with GDPR and anonymization standards.
  • Conduct vehicle safety and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and trace system issues to root causes in the field.
  • Develop tools and methods to enhance test execution, data analysis, and reporting workflows.
  • Support integration, calibration, and testing of automotive components (e.g., LiDAR, radar, cameras, GPS).
  • Collaborate with AD technology partners and suppliers to ensure alignment and system performance.
  • Assist in milestone readiness and release activities.
  • Provide actionable feedback to engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the line manager.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Professional driving background (e.g., chauffeur, HGV/PSV driver, or former emergency services driver).
  • Clean and valid driving license, with no DUI offenses in the last 10 years.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to safety-critical operations.
  • Strong computer literacy and willingness to learn new automotive and testing technologies.
  • Solid analytical skills with ability to interpret and report data accurately.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to prioritize effectively in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Engineering or related field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics).
  • Experience in AD/ADAS development, OEM or Tier-1 environments, and/or testing prototype vehicles at proving grounds.

What’s in it for you? Joining Verne means becoming part of a team shaping the future of autonomous mobility. Here’s what we offer:

  • The chance to collaborate with experts from 20+ industries.
  • Ownership of your projects, with the freedom to innovate and take initiative.
  • A culture of transparency, feedback, and open communication.
  • Comprehensive financial and wellbeing support designed to meet diverse needs.
  • The excitement of working in a fast-growing startup where your ideas truly matter.
