What they need
Avionics Hardware Engineer
Flight Controller, GNSS and Embedded Systems
Location: Gurgaon, India (On-site)
Experience: 2 to 4 years (we weight a strong portfolio of self-built hardware over years of tenure)
Team: Hardware / Avionics, BharatRohan
Role Overview
BharatRohan builds UAVs for precision agriculture. Today, much of our flight-critical hardware - flight controllers, GNSS receivers, and carrier boards - is bought in. We are bringing that capability in-house: designing our own carrier boards to the open Pixhawk / Cube standard, building custom u-blox-based GNSS boards, porting ArduPilot / PX4 to our own hardware, and learning from teardowns of existing autopilots.
We are looking for an engineer who does not just integrate off-the-shelf modules, but who designs, builds, and brings up avionics hardware from scratch. If you have personally taken a board from schematic to flying hardware, this role is for you. This is a founding hardware role with genuine end-to-end ownership: schematic to PCB to bring-up
to firmware to field.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware and PCB Design
- Design multi-layer PCBs and schematics in Altium Designer (or KiCad) - working from IC datasheets and reference designs, not just wiring up ready-made modules
- Design custom carrier boards to the open Pixhawk / Cube (FMUv6) standard - connectors, power, and peripheral breakouts
- Design custom GNSS-and-compass boards integrating u-blox receivers (NEO-M9N, ZED-F9P), including the RF front-end (antenna matching, SAW filter, LNA, controlled-impedance routing)
- Own signal integrity, EMI / EMC, and ESD - especially GNSS coexistence alongside LTE modems and camera subsystems
- Prepare BOM and AVL, manage component sourcing and lifecycle, and drive design-for-manufacturing with PCB fab and assembly partners
Firmware and Board Bring-up
- Develop firmware in Embedded C and C++ on STM32 (ARM Cortex-M) using ChibiOS, NuttX, or FreeRTOS
- Port ArduPilot and/or PX4 to our boards (hwdef, bootloader, sensor drivers) and validate the full system
- Develop DroneCAN / UAVCAN peripheral nodes (GPS, compass, ESC, smart battery) and MAVLink integration
- Bring up new boards: validate power rails, debug buses with an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and SWD / JTAG, and write drivers for IMU, barometer, magnetometer, and GNSS over I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN
Validation
- Analyze existing autopilot and GNSS hardware to inform our own designs - re-draw schematics, identify ICs, build BOMs, and analyze layouts (for interoperability and learning, designing to open standards)
- Perform fine-pitch rework (hot-air, BGA, microscope) for prototyping and debugging
- Define and run bring-up, functional, and environmental (vibration and temperature) test procedures, and design test jigs and fixtures
Ownership
- Take end-to-end ownership of deployed field hardware - reliability, performance, and OTA- supportable firmware
- Document your designs (schematics, interface control documents, bring-up notes) and collaborate with firmware, backend, mobile, and product teams
Required Skills (Must-have)
- Multi-layer PCB design and schematic capture in Altium Designer or KiCad
- Hardware design around STM32 / ARM Cortex-M from datasheets - power, clocking, decoupling, and layout
- Embedded C and C++ on both bare-metal and an RTOS
- Board bring-up and debugging with an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and SWD / JTAG
- Solid working knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN
- A demonstrable portfolio of boards you personally designed and brought up - GitHub, project links, photos, or shipped products
- B.Tech in Electronics and Communication or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent practical track record
Strongly Preferred
- ArduPilot or PX4 board porting (hwdef) - ideally a board you have already ported
- DroneCAN / UAVCAN node design
- Redundant and efficient power-supply design
- RF and GNSS layout, and u-blox chip integration
- Reverse-engineering a PCB, or extracting and analyzing firmware
- Design-for-manufacturing experience and working with fab / EMS houses
Bonus
- RTK GNSS (ZED-F9P) and moving-baseline heading
- RF lab work (vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, near-field probes)
- MAVLink internals and Mission Planner / QGroundControl
What Makes You a Great Fit
- You have taken hardware from a blank schematic to a working board yourself
- You debug with a scope in one hand and a datasheet in the other
- You own problems end-to-end and document what you build
- You are excited to build India-made avionics for real-world agriculture
Why Join Us
- Build flight-critical hardware that flies over real farms, not demos
- Found our in-house avionics capability and own designs from concept to production
- Work across the full stack - PCB, RF, firmware, autopilot, and field
- A collaborative, innovation-driven engineering culture
How to Apply
Send your resume along with links to hardware you have built - GitHub, schematics or layouts,
ArduPilot / PX4 contributions, project writeups, or photos of boards you have brought up. Tell us
about one board you took from schematic to working hardware: what it was, and what broke along
the way.
Other offers great for you!
