Avionics Software Test Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to help accelerate the automation and expansion of our software regression test capabilities for embedded avionics systems. This individual will play a critical role in verifying and validating safety-critical software by developing automated test solutions, reviewing verification strategies, and supporting the delivery of high-reliability aerospace products.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in embedded systems testing , Python-based automation , and safety-critical software verification within aerospace or similarly regulated industries.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
• 6+ years of experience in software integration, verification, and testing within aerospace, defense, avionics, or a related industry
• Strong understanding of embedded hardware and software systems
• Advanced proficiency in Python for test automation and script development
• Experience with requirements-based verification and validation of safety-critical systems
• Hands-on experience using LabVIEW
• Experience supporting or executing software verification activities in regulated environments (DO-178 or equivalent)

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Senior Software Test Engineer supporting verification and validation activities for safety-critical embedded software.
• Translate system and software requirements into detailed automated test cases and Python-based test scripts.
• Lead and support the development of automated regression testing capabilities to improve test coverage and execution efficiency.
• Review, validate, and approve test procedures, scripts, and verification artifacts in accordance with established engineering processes.
• Support Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) testing environments.
• Troubleshoot complex software, hardware, and integration issues while mentoring team members on best testing practices.
• Collaborate closely with software, systems, and hardware engineering teams to ensure comprehensive verification coverage.
• Assist in reducing verification backlogs and meeting aggressive program delivery schedules through efficient test automation.

Preferred Experience

• DO-178C software verification experience
• Aerospace, avionics, or defense industry experience
• Experience working within Agile development environments
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and test management tools
• Experience with hardware interfaces, sensors, and real-time embedded systems
