Overview

A multi-company organization in a highly regulated industry is hiring a hands-on Data Architect to bring structure and discipline to its enterprise data ecosystem. You'll be the AWS-focused architect on a two-architect team (your counterpart covers Azure). You'll design how data moves from AWS-based source systems, Salesforce, and NetSuite into a central Microsoft Fabric lakehouse.

This is an individual contributor role for someone who designs the architecture and stays close to the build. It is not a people-management position.

Your first 90 days: Assess the current data landscape, then deliver practical solutions that bring governance, quality, and consistency to how the organization manages its data.

Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

• Design scalable, modular data solutions across AWS, integrating sources such as Couchbase, MySQL, DynamoDB, and InfluxDB, along with Salesforce CRM and NetSuite ERP, into a Microsoft Fabric lakehouse.
• Define and enforce data architecture principles, standards, and patterns for data modeling, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality.
• Develop canonical data models that make data reusable across business domains.
• Apply data mesh and domain-oriented architecture patterns. Treat pipelines and analytics platforms as data products, with owners, SLAs, and adoption metrics.
• Produce solution architecture artifacts, including system diagrams, data flows, capability maps, reference architectures, and architecture decision records (ADRs).
• Design API-first patterns for data integration and data product consumption.

Strategy & Innovation

• Own and evolve the enterprise data architecture roadmap so it stays aligned with business and regulatory needs.
• Run proofs-of-concept and pilots for emerging capabilities such as data virtualization, knowledge graphs, and AI/ML.
• Enable a Customer 360 view across CRM, ERP, and other enterprise platforms.
• Support self-service reporting and analytics, including practical, well-governed use of AI tools.

Governance, Privacy & Compliance

• Make sure data and AI solutions meet HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, and telecom (FCC) regulatory requirements.
• Establish and enforce data governance, privacy, and security frameworks.

Collaboration

• Partner with IT, business leaders, and product owners on a unified, multi-company data strategy.
• Present architecture recommendations and updates to executive and technical audiences.
• Share best practices with data engineers and fellow architects.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in enterprise data solution architecture.
• Deep, hands-on AWS data expertise: S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, EMR, Kinesis, and Step Functions.
• Working knowledge of the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
• Proven experience designing cloud-native lakehouse and data platform modernization initiatives.
• Strong experience with data governance, privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, PCI), and compliance best practices.
• Advanced SQL and Python.
• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing, and streaming platforms (Kafka).
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools, data orchestration, data cataloging, metadata management, and data lineage.
• Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
• Understanding of enterprise AI/ML adoption, including MLOps and model governance.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to executives.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or the broader Azure data stack.
• Experience in telecom, healthcare, or another highly regulated industry.
• Familiarity with Salesforce, NetSuite, and enterprise application integration.
• Experience building Customer 360 platforms.
• AWS certifications (e.g., Data Engineer – Associate, Solutions Architect – Professional), Azure Data/AI certifications, or TOGAF certification.
