Location: Cebu or Manila, Philippines (Remote-first, aligned to Australian business hours – AEST)

The Role

C9 is looking for an Azure API Management (APIM) Developer who will be responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and maintaining secure and scalable API solutions using Microsoft Azure API Management. You will work within an Agile team to implement API gateways, policies, integrations, security controls, and monitoring solutions, ensuring reliable API delivery that meets client requirements and follows established technical standards.

There may be occasional involvement in client projects where your expertise is required, but the core purpose of this fixed-term role is to uplift C9's internal delivery capability. After the initial fixed-term engagement, there may be an opportunity to continue with C9 on a casual, contract or project-by-project basis as needs arise.

Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, publish, and maintain APIs using Azure API Management.
• Develop and manage APIM policies for authentication, authorization, transformation, routing, throttling, caching, and error handling.
• Implement secure API access using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, API keys, certificates, and Azure security services.
• Configure API products, subscriptions, revisions, versions, named values, and related APIM components.
• Integrate APIs with backend services, Azure services, applications, and third-party systems.
• Monitor API performance, availability, errors, and usage, and troubleshoot issues affecting service reliability.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes for APIM configurations using Azure DevOps.
• Maintain API specifications, technical documentation, configuration standards, and deployment procedures.
• Collaborate with developers, architects, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver API solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve API performance, security, maintainability, and operational efficiency.

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of experience working with Microsoft Azure and Azure API Management (APIM).

• Strong practical understanding of:

• Azure API Management

• API gateways and API lifecycle management

• APIM policies and policy expressions

• RESTful APIs and API integration

• API authentication and security

• Hands-on experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, API keys, certificates, and related security mechanisms.

• Experience integrating APIs with Azure services, backend applications, and third-party systems.

• Experience troubleshooting and supporting APIs in production environments.

• Understanding of cloud-based architecture and Azure best practices.

Project & Delivery Skills

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
• Familiarity with Git, Azure DevOps, Jira (or equivalent), and modern development workflows.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Comfortable working remotely with distributed teams while remaining accountable for outcomes.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving capability.
• Proactive, self-directed, and delivery-focused.
• Strong attention to detail with a pragmatic approach under pressure.
• Able to explain technical decisions clearly to teammates and non-technical stakeholders.
• Enjoys working in collaborative, outcome-oriented engineering teams.

Bonus (Nice to Have)

• Experience with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, or other Azure integration services.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Bicep.

• Exposure to:

• Azure Monitor and Application Insights

• API automation and testing

• Advanced Azure DevOps pipelines

• Microservices and integration-heavy environments

• Experience working with Australian or international clients.

• Experience in consulting or multi-client delivery environments.
