NexGen LLC

NexGen
is a software development company specialising in the architecture, design and development of web-based solutions for international clients. We deliver integrated technology solutions, including custom software development, web and mobile applications, database architecture and system support.
With an experienced technology team and a strong focus on innovation, quality and collaboration, NexGen works on complex international projects using modern technologies within a fully remote environment.
We are currently looking for an experienced
Azure Data Architect
to join our team in a fully remote role focused on enterprise Azure data architecture and the data layer supporting
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Agentic Artificial Intelligence applications
.
This is a highly specialised role requiring the combination of
Azure Data Architecture, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Synapse Analytics and proven production experience designing the data or knowledge layer behind RAG, GenAI or Agentic Artificial Intelligence applications
.
The role does not require you to develop RAG solutions or Artificial Intelligence agents. The focus is on the underlying data architecture – how enterprise data and knowledge are ingested, prepared, stored, governed and made available for retrieval and Artificial Intelligence consumption.
Your Role:
<ul>
<li>Design and own enterprise-scale Azure data architectures supporting complex data and Artificial Intelligence use cases
</li>
<li>Design the data and knowledge layer supporting production RAG, GenAI and Agentic Artificial Intelligence applications
</li>
<li>Architect scalable solutions using
Azure Cosmos DB
, including data modelling, partitioning, indexing, throughput, scalability and cost optimisation
</li>
<li>Make architectural decisions across
Azure Synapse Analytics
, including Pipelines, Spark, Serverless SQL and Dedicated SQL Pools
</li>
<li>Work across the Azure data ecosystem, including
Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server, Transact-SQL, Azure Data Lake, Lakehouse architectures and Azure Functions
</li>
<li>Design scalable, reusable and metadata/configuration-driven ingestion architectures across databases, Application Programming Interfaces and file-based sources
</li>
<li>Architect solutions involving both structured and genuinely unstructured data, including documents, Portable Document Format files, free text, scanned content, images and emails
</li>
<li>Assess and modernise existing data platforms, addressing performance, scalability, modelling and data-quality challenges
</li>
<li>Define immediate tactical improvements alongside longer-term target architecture
</li>
<li>Design solutions involving batch processing, incremental processing and incremental refresh
</li>
<li>Lead data modelling, ingestion and platform modernisation, evaluating technologies according to scalability, cost, workload and business requirements
</li>
<li>Produce detailed architecture documentation, diagrams and implementation-ready technical recommendations
</li>
<li>Work closely with engineering teams and business stakeholders to guide implementation
</li>
</ul>
Your Profile:
To be considered for this position, you must have proven project experience with:
<ul>
<li>Enterprise
Azure Data Architecture
, including strong personal architecture ownership
</li>
<li>Azure Cosmos DB
– a fundamental and essential requirement for this role
</li>
<li>Strong and current
Azure Synapse Analytics
</li>
<li>A
real production RAG, GenAI or Agentic Artificial Intelligence application
where you personally designed or contributed to the supporting data or knowledge architecture
</li>
<li>Artificial Intelligence-ready data architecture
, including preparing enterprise data or knowledge for retrieval and Artificial Intelligence consumption
</li>
<li>Azure Databricks
</li>
<li>Azure SQL Managed Instance / SQL Server / Transact-SQL
</li>
<li>Azure Data Lake / Lakehouse architecture
</li>
<li>Azure Functions
</li>
<li>Both structured and genuinely unstructured data
</li>
<li>Scalable, metadata/configuration-driven ingestion and reusable ingestion architecture
</li>
<li>Data modelling, ingestion and existing-platform modernisation
</li>
<li>Batch processing, incremental processing and incremental refresh
</li>
</ul>
You must demonstrate strong practical architectural experience with
Azure Cosmos DB
, including data modelling, partition-key strategy, indexing, Request Units and throughput optimisation, scalability, cost optimisation, consistency and Change Feed.
Your project history must clearly demonstrate
personal ownership of relevant architectural decisions
. Theoretical knowledge, training, requirement mapping or proof-of-concept exposure alone is not sufficient for the required production RAG/Agentic experience.
You should be able to assess an existing complex data platform, distinguish immediate tactical improvements from longer-term architectural changes, evaluate technologies objectively and translate your recommendations into implementation-ready architecture.
Good professional English is required, ideally
C1 level
.
Application Requirements
Please submit your CV together with detailed project information or a technical portfolio demonstrating your relevant hands-on experience.
Your application must clearly show actual project experience and your personal contribution, particularly:
<ul>
<li>A
production RAG, GenAI or Agentic Artificial Intelligence project
, including approximate project dates and what you personally designed or owned
</li>
<li>What the application was designed to do
</li>
<li>The data or knowledge architecture supporting the application, including how enterprise data was ingested, prepared, stored and made available for retrieval and Artificial Intelligence consumption
</li>
<li>Your experience with documents, text extraction, metadata, chunking, embeddings, vector search/retrieval or similar patterns, where applicable
</li>
<li>The storage, search and vector-search technologies used
</li>
<li>Your hands-on architectural experience with
Azure Cosmos DB
, including how it was used and the architectural decisions you personally made
</li>
<li>Your strongest
Azure Synapse Analytics
project, including which Synapse capabilities you personally designed or worked with, the role Synapse played within the architecture and the architectural decisions you owned
</li>
<li>Your relevant architecture experience with
Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake / Lakehouse architecture, Azure SQL and Azure Functions
</li>
</ul>
This information may be included directly in your
CV
or provided as a
separate project portfolio/document submitted together with your application
.
Please note that applications which do not provide clear evidence of the required production RAG/Agentic data-architecture experience together with Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Synapse Analytics cannot be considered for this position.
What Is Offered:
<ul>
<li>Full-time, fully remote
opportunity
</li>
<li>International and technically challenging project environment
</li>
<li>Complex, enterprise-scale Azure data architecture work
</li>
<li>Opportunity to work at the intersection of modern Azure data platforms and production Generative Artificial Intelligence architecture
</li>
<li>Long-term collaboration
</li>
<li>Employment contract available for candidates eligible for employment in Bulgaria
</li>
<li>B2B collaboration available, particularly for candidates based outside Bulgaria
</li>
<li>Straightforward interview process consisting of an introductory discussion followed by a technical interview
