Azure Infrastructure Engineer | Contract

The Role
The role will focus on reviewing and strengthening the Azure environment supporting the Transport Management System and associated integrations. Working closely with Digital, Architecture, and delivery partners, the engineer will identify infrastructure risks, implement best-practice security controls, improve platform reliability, and establish operational standards to support future growth. This role is ideal for a hands-on Azure specialist who enjoys both strategic improvement initiatives and technical execution.

The successful contractor will be expected to deliver:

• Azure platform security assessment.
• Prioritised remediation plan.
• Completion of agreed security and hardening activities.
• Updated Azure infrastructure documentation.
• Monitoring and alerting improvements.
• Backup and disaster recovery review.
• Operational support runbooks.
• Infrastructure optimisation recommendations.
• Final handover and knowledge transfer documentation.

Your Profile

• 5+ years' experience administering and engineering Microsoft Azure environments.
• Strong experience with Azure networking, security, and platform management.
• Experience implementing Azure landing zone and governance principles.
• Experience securing enterprise cloud environments.

Strong understanding of:

• Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
• Azure Virtual Networks
• Network Security Groups
• Azure Monitor
• Log Analytics
• Azure Key Vault
• Azure Backup
• Microsoft Defender for Cloud
• Azure Policy o RBAC and Privileged Identity Management
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code concepts and automation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
