SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Equipment is returned to service on time and in full working order, with every repair tested before sign-off and no comebacks resulting from work performed at the B Level.
- Fiix work orders are completed accurately and consistently, with labor, parts, failure causes, and test results documented on the same day the work is performed.
- The technician contributes to a high-performing shop environment by communicating repair status clearly, supporting less experienced team members, and maintaining a safe, organized work area at all times.
OBJECTIVES
- Perform preventive maintenance and complete independent vehicle and equipment inspections according to schedule, ensuring all fleet assets meet safety and operational standards before returning to service.
- Service fluids, filters, tires, wheels, brakes, steering, and suspension components on trucks, trailers, and landscape equipment in compliance with manufacturer specifications and Wild Ridge maintenance protocols.
- Diagnose and repair common starting, charging, lighting, wiring, and connector problems using a digital multimeter, scan tool, and applicable service information and wiring diagrams.
- Identify hydraulic leaks and replace hoses and fittings on landscape and snow equipment, escalating to lead technicians when the repair exceeds the scope of the B Level.
- Diagnose common performance problems on gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and perform repairs on small engines and landscape equipment independently and efficiently.
- Identify needed parts and report additional safety or maintenance concerns discovered during inspection or repair, ensuring no issue is left undocumented or unaddressed.
- Test all equipment after repairs are complete and correct any remaining issues before the asset is returned to service, verifying repair quality at every stage.
- Create accurate Fiix work orders that record labor hours, parts used, failure causes, repair notes, and test results for every job completed.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area, follow all safety procedures, and protect company tools and equipment from damage or misuse throughout every shift.
- Share knowledge and best practices with less experienced technicians, supporting their skill development and contributing to a collaborative and capable shop team.
- Communicate repair status, delays, parts needs, and requests for advanced diagnostic support promptly to the Shop Supervisor or Lead Technician to keep fleet availability on track.
COMPETENCIES
- Mechanically proficient across a range of fleet and landscape equipment, applying diagnostic and repair skills independently on routine and common failures without requiring step-by-step direction.
- Methodical and detail-oriented in diagnostic work, using available tools, service manuals, and wiring diagrams to identify root causes accurately before beginning repairs.
- Accountable for repair quality, taking ownership of every job from intake through testing and returning equipment to service only when the work meets the shop's standards.
- Organized and safety-conscious in the shop environment, maintaining a clean work area, following established safety protocols, and handling company tools and equipment with care.
- Communicates proactively with the Shop Supervisor and Lead Technician, providing timely updates on repair status, parts needs, and situations requiring advanced support without waiting to be asked.
- Proficient with digital diagnostic tools including multimeters and scan tools, and comfortable navigating computerized maintenance systems such as Fiix for accurate work order documentation.
- Collaborative and willing to share knowledge with less experienced technicians, contributing to the overall capability and cohesion of the shop team.
- Dependable and consistent in attendance, work quality, and adherence to shop standards, understanding that fleet availability depends directly on the reliability of every technician on the team.
- Eager to grow toward the A Level, demonstrating initiative in building diagnostic depth, seeking coaching, and taking on increasingly complex repairs as skills develop.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance and routine fleet or equipment repairs on trucks, trailers, small engines, landscape equipment, or snow equipment.
- Ability to diagnose common mechanical and electrical faults with minimal supervision using a digital multimeter, scan tool, service manuals, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems; prior Fiix experience is helpful, and strong documentation habits and dependable safety practices are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This is a full-time, in-shop role at Wild Ridge Lawn & Landscape's Indianapolis, Indiana facility, requiring sustained physical presence and activity throughout each shift.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift equipment and components regularly throughout the workday; ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required, with heavier lifts performed with assistance.
- Work is performed in a shop environment with exposure to grease, fluids, noise, and varying temperatures; appropriate personal protective equipment is required and must be worn consistently.
