Back End Developer

seeking a Back End Developer to support the development and modernization of customer-facing digital experiences, marketing platforms, and content-driven websites. The ideal candidate has digital agency experience and a strong background in Node.js, TypeScript, API design, headless CMS platforms, and scalable web infrastructure.

This role will focus on building and maintaining backend services, integrating content management systems, optimizing content retrieval and delivery, and supporting legacy platform migrations. The developer should be comfortable operating legacy and modern technology stacks in parallel, maintaining content and SEO parity, and executing safe, well-planned cutovers with minimal disruption to customer-facing experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Support React-based applications and server-side rendering (SSR) frameworks.
• Integrate headless CMS platforms, particularly Contentful, to deliver structured content across digital experiences.
• Implement and optimize search and content retrieval capabilities using Elasticsearch-style indexing, tagging, and filtering.
• Develop and maintain containerized applications using Docker.
• Implement CDN and application-level caching strategies to improve performance, scalability, and content delivery.
• Support legacy platform migrations, including running old and new technology stacks in parallel.
• Maintain content integrity, URL structures, metadata, and SEO parity throughout migration and cutover activities.
• Collaborate with design, frontend engineering, content strategy, SEO, and technical teams in an agency environment.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and ensure reliable integrations across APIs, CMS platforms, and infrastructure.
• Contribute to technical planning, implementation, testing, and production deployment.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs.
• Experience with headless CMS platforms, ideally Contentful.
• Familiarity with server-side rendering (SSR) frameworks and modern React-based applications.
• Experience with Docker and containerized application environments.
• Understanding of search indexing, tagging, and content retrieval patterns, including Elasticsearch-style solutions.
• Experience implementing CDN and application-level caching.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and deliver customer-facing digital experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working at a digital agency or within an agency delivery model.
• Experience supporting marketing websites, content-heavy platforms, and customer-facing digital products.
• Hands-on experience with legacy platform migrations and modernization initiatives.
• Experience maintaining content and SEO parity while operating legacy and modern stacks concurrently.
• Familiarity with Ruby for maintenance or integration work.
• Experience with production cutovers, migration validation, and performance optimization.
