About the Role

The client is seeking a Backend Engineer with strong experience in Python, AWS, API development, and cloud-native application engineering. This remote position involves designing and developing scalable services, strengthening authentication and authorization capabilities, and supporting cloud infrastructure in a DevOps environment.

The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, maintainable software. The role also involves contributing to technical design, software quality, engineering best practices, and the development of team capabilities through mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deliver scalable systems, services, APIs, and cloud-based applications.
• Write efficient, reliable, maintainable, and high-quality code.
• Participate in software design discussions, specification development, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable cloud solutions.
• Use automated CI/CD pipelines to deploy software packages in a DevOps environment.
• Support AWS infrastructure and the architecture team responsible for cloud-based service delivery.
• Develop and maintain APIs using Python and relevant web development frameworks, including Flask and FastAPI.
• Contribute to authentication, authorization, identity management, and application security initiatives.
• Use tools for user analytics, logging, and system monitoring.
• Write and execute unit, integration, and performance tests.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and design and develop product features.
• Prepare clear technical documentation for software deliverables.
• Participate in triage meetings, technical discussions, and Agile ceremonies for estimation and product execution.
• Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical challenges and work effectively with ambiguity.
• Mentor other developers and support continuous learning across the engineering team.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• At least five years of software development experience in an Agile environment, including design, problem-solving, debugging, and DevOps practices.
• At least three years of hands-on coding experience with Python, preferably in web development.
• At least three years of hands-on coding experience with Angular, React, or an equivalent library or framework.
• Familiarity with Python web frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
• Understanding of API gateways, reverse proxies, multi-factor authentication (MFA), tokenization, SSL, OAuth, SAML, and application authentication.
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization protocols, architecture, and concepts.
• Strong experience with OpenID Connect (OIDC) and OAuth identity providers.
• Understanding of OpenAPI specifications, Swagger, and SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerization for application deployment.
• Experience with testing tools and platforms such as Cucumber, Cypress, Selenium, and Postman.
• Familiarity with Active Directory or other LDAP-compatible directory services.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A customer-focused approach and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while delivering high-quality results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS Elastic Container Service, load balancing, Route 53, AWS Certificate Manager (ACM), and CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with Python linting tools such as pylint, flake8, and ruff.
• Familiarity with Python type-checking tools such as mypy and pyright.
• Some familiarity with Java.
• Experience with containerization, CI/CD, DevOps, and SecDevOps practices.

The salary range is determined by the role's minimum and maximum compensation levels. Offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the range. Final compensation depends on job-related skills, experience, and expertise assessed during the interview process, and may vary based on the work location.
