Back-end Lead Developer (Java / Spring Boot)

Build reactive, high-scale Java systems — and lead the engineers who build them with you.

We are hiring a Back-end Lead Developer for a leading US-based client. You will lead a team of developers across the full software lifecycle, with a focus on application development, modernisation and re-engineering. You will design and build scalable enterprise services on a reactive Java microservices stack, across on-prem, cloud and hybrid environments.

Shift and work mode

• US shift, aligned to Pacific Time (approx. 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM IST)
• Full-time, work from office

What you will do

• Lead and guide developers through the full SDLC; keep morale, productivity, training and quality high
• Join sprint planning, backlog grooming and retrospectives to ship on time
• Design and build scalable, secure, maintainable back-end systems for web and mobile, on-prem, cloud and hybrid
• Set and enforce coding standards, best practices and documentation
• Run code reviews and mentor junior and mid-level developers
• Work with Product, QA and DevOps to deliver quality releases
• Fix performance bottlenecks, bugs and technical blockers
• Handle project sizing, code migration, SLA monitoring and maintenance window planning
• Track emerging technologies and recommend tools and frameworks

What you need

• 10+ years of Java with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Java EE and Spring WebFlux (reactive programming)
• Database design with SQL, Oracle and MySQL or PostgreSQL
• REST and SOAP API design; API management with Apigee
• Kafka or RabbitMQ for real-time data
• Microservices architecture and resiliency design patterns
• Redis, Memcached or Hazelcast caching
• Docker and Kubernetes
• AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
• Git, GitLab and GitLab CI pipelines; Tomcat; Jira
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React or similar
• Proven track record leading technical design and making trade-offs between scale, performance, resilience and delivery

Good to have

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration
• Strong time management
