Job Title: Back-end Software Development Engineering Engineer III

Location: Chennai

Client: Ford India

Work Type: Hybrid (4 Days work From Office)

Position Description:

• 5+ years of software development experience, including hands-on experience building Java applications and working with IBM Mainframe (z/OS) systems. Candidates who have recently transitioned from mainframe development to Java are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and enhance applications using Java and Spring Boot, including new features, APIs, and integrations.
• Support and maintain production applications across Java and mainframe environments.
• Work with mainframe systems to understand existing business logic, troubleshoot issues, and support application changes or integrations.
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot COBOL programs and batch workflows using JCL and standard z/OS utilities.
• Develop and support online transaction applications using IMS DC.
• Write and tune SQL queries for DB2, and work with VSAM files as needed.
• Investigate production issues, resolve batch abends, perform root-cause analysis, and support incident resolution.
• Use relevant development and analysis tools, such as File Manager and IMS debugging tools.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of hands-on application development and production support experience. Practical experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Mainframe development or support experience on IBM z/OS, ideally including COBOL, JCL, and batch processing.
• Experience with REST APIs, application integration, and relational databases. Ability to troubleshoot issues across application, batch, and data-processing workflows.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Mainframe Experience

Experience with the following is valuable:

• COBOL and JCL IMS DC online transaction processing DB2 and embedded SQL VSAM Batch-abend troubleshooting and root-cause analysis Mainframe debugging and analysis tools, such as File Manager and IMS debug

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with IMS DB and DL/I calls.
• Experience modernizing or integrating mainframe applications with Java-based services.
• Familiarity with microservices, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.

Skills Required:

• Spring Boot, AI, Java, Mainframe Systems, JCL, DB2

Skills Preferred:

• SonarQube, GCP, Pub/Sub

Experience Required:

• Engineer III Exp: Proficient In 2 coding lang. or adv. Prac. in 1 lang.
• 6+ years in IT; 4+ years in development of Java and Mainframe

Experience Preferred:

• Prompt Engineering: Experience crafting effective prompts and workflows for code understanding, documentation, and generation.
• LLM Integration: Exposure to building applications that integrate LLMs (e.g., RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector databases, LangChain, or similar frameworks).
• Python: Familiarity with Python for scripting, notebooks, and AI/ML tooling.
• Cloud: Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and their AI/ML services.
• Legacy Modernization: Prior experience reverse-engineering or modernizing legacy systems.
• Documentation Tooling: Experience generating architecture diagrams, API docs, or knowledge bases (including AI-assisted approaches).

Education Required:

• Bachelor's Degree
