About Us – Christchurch City Mission

The Christchurch City Mission (Te Whare Mīhana Ki Ōtautahi) helps anyone in need, no matter their situation. We work alongside people going through tough times—whether it’s due to job loss, housing issues, addiction, family difficulties, or financial stress.

We respond to both immediate crises and long-term challenges. Our services aim to build confidence, dignity, and skills so people can live independently and feel proud of themselves. We've seen lives change with our support and firmly believe everyone deserves compassion, support, and a second chance.

Fixed Term Role: 26 October 2026 – 19 February 2027

We are looking for a Fixed Term coordinator, Monday – Friday 9am-5pm to help local Tamariki start school ready to thrive.

Christchurch City Mission is looking for an organised, compassionate coordinator to help whānau access school uniforms, shoes and stationery. This is practical, people-centred work where your care and attention to detail will make an immediate difference.

What you’ll do

  • Be the trusted first contact for Back-to-School enquiries.
  • Assess eligibility and guide whānau through the process with respect.
  • Coordinate orders, purchase orders and collections.
  • Connect clients with further support when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting.

What you’ll bring

  • Warm, confident communication and strong organisation.
  • Knowledge of Canterbury social services. Knowledge of Canterbury social services and community support networks would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of school uniform, footwear, and stationery support processes, or a willingness to learn.
  • An understanding of social justice, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and relevant legislation.
  • Sound judgement, digital confidence and a commitment to inclusive, ethical practice.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with whānau, schools, and community partners.

Why join us?

Be part of a values-led team turning practical support into brighter starts for local whānau.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

We are committed to creating a workplace where people feel welcomed, respected, and supported to be themselves. We encourage applications from people of diverse backgrounds and are happy to discuss any access requirements throughout the recruitment process.

Note: Applicants must have NZ/AU citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa.
