Backend Engineer (Python) – Semi-Senior

We’re hiring a Backend Engineer to join a US-based tech energy company. You’ll own and evolve the backend behind an analytical and optimization model that powers decisions for real customers. This role suits someone who enjoys digging into existing code, understanding how it works, and making it better.

What you’ll do

• Maintain, debug, and extend an existing Python codebase built around analytical and optimization models.
• Build and maintain REST APIs (FastAPI/Flask) that expose model results to internal and external users.
• Work with data pipelines using pandas: transform, validate, and optimize data flows.
• Investigate and resolve customer-reported issues coming through the support portal.
• Improve code quality through testing, CI/CD, and documentation.
• Work autonomously and, over time, mentor a junior engineer.

What you bring

• 2–4 years of professional experience as a backend or Python engineer.
• Strong Python skills and solid hands-on experience with pandas.
• Comfortable reading and maintaining someone else’s code, especially analytical or optimization logic.
• Experience building REST APIs with FastAPI or Flask.
• SQL and relational databases [PostgreSQL / SQL Server].
• Testing with Pytest.
• Git, Docker, and CI/CD with GitHub Actions.
• Professional English (B2 or higher). You’ll work directly with US stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Background in energy (electricity, oil & gas).
• Familiarity with optimization or scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pyomo, PuLP, OR-Tools).
• Experience handling customer bug tickets (Jira Service Management, ServiceNow).
• Cloud experience [AWS / Azure / GCP].
• Hands-on experience with AI tools in your workflow (e.g., Claude certifications).
