About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer who can write clean and efficient Python code and build high-performance FastAPI REST APIs. In this role, you will maintain and enhance Postgres schemas and write clean and efficient SQL to ensure our web application remains fast, reliable, and secure.

While this is primarily a backend role, our ecosystem includes React and Node.js. We need someone who is comfortable working across the stack when needed meaning you can confidently read, debug, and make minor fixes in JavaScript without hesitating.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary database should be PostgreSQL, and the candidate should have strong hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL across multiple project

• Backend & Web Dev: Build, test, and maintain robust FastAPI REST APIs. Database Development: Maintain, enhance, and evolve our PostgreSQL schemas.
• Query Optimization: Write clean and efficient SQL queries, manage database indexing, and enforce strict constraints.
• Data Quality & Validation: Implement rigorous data validation layers at both the application and database levels to prevent corrupt data.
• Cross-Stack Debugging: Read, debug, and make minor updates or bug fixes within our JavaScript/React frontend and Node.js codebases. What Were Looking For
• Python Expertise: Strong professional experience building web applications using FastAPI.
• Postgres Mastery: Deep knowledge of relational database design, schema management, database maintenance, and transactional safety (ACID compliance).
• JavaScript Literacy: Strong ability to read, trace, and debug JavaScript. You should be comfortable jumping into frontend code or Node logs to diagnose where a bug lives.
• Web Fundamentals: Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication, and web security best practices.
• Infrastructure & Scaling: Hands-on experience working with connection pooling and managing background task queues.
• Collaboration: Proven experience working effectively alongside frontend engineers.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with database migration tools (e.g., Alembic).
• Experience with Docker or basic containerized workflows.
• Basic familiarity with React state management or hooks.
