What they need
A Backend Engineer designs, builds, and maintains the server-side architecture, databases, and APIs that power web applications, focusing on scalability, security, and performance. Unlike backend developers who primarily implement features, engineers define the system structure, make technical choices regarding infrastructure, and ensure the platform remains stable under high traffic.
Key responsibilities include designing scalable backend services, optimizing database schemas, and developing RESTful or GraphQL APIs for frontend integration. Engineers also implement security protocols, manage cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS), and collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure continuous integration and deployment.
