Backend Engineer

About the Role

Auric AI is building a battlefield AI vision platform that converts satellite imagery into actionable intelligence. We need backend engineers who think from first principles, move fast, and can design systems that elegantly handle both complexity and scale.

This role is for someone who enjoys solving hard problems at the intersection of distributed systems, real-time image processing, and AI deployment — regardless of years of experience.

What You’ll Build

• High-throughput image ingestion pipelines (10,000+ images/day)
• Automated tiling, preprocessing, and transformation systems
• Model inference services connected to our CV research stack
• Quality control and validation workflows
• Scalable data stores for imagery, detections, and metadata
• Secure access-controlled dissemination to thousands of users
• Edge-friendly intelligence delivery over low-bandwidth networks

• Ability to break down complex system problems into simple, logical components
• Strong reasoning and clarity of thought
• Pragmatic engineering instincts — knowing what to build now vs later
• Comfort working with ambiguity and 0→1 product building
• Curiosity and willingness to dive deep into unfamiliar areas

Skills & Qualities

• 1+ years of hands-on engineering experience, with good exposure to building or working with ML or AI systems in production.
• Strong in at least one backend language (Python, Go, Node, Java)
• Ability to design and implement distributed services
• Good understanding of data storage, queues, caching, API design
• Ability to optimize systems for throughput, reliability, and latency
• Experience building things outside of work (projects, systems, tools)
• Comfort with cloud infra (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containers (Docker/K8s)

Years of experience are irrelevant to us — depth of thinking and engineering ability matter far more.
