Backend Engineering Lead

Mimin is a conversational AI and omnichannel messaging platform serving brands and enterprises across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. We build systems that unify chat, voice, and agentic AI into one continuous thread, with seamless handover from AI to human agents.

About the Role:

As Mimin scales, we're building out a stronger technical leadership layer on the backend. We're hiring our second-in-command: the most senior technical voice after the CTO, someone who can own architecture decisions, keep the engineering team moving day to day, and represent the team's technical direction. This is still a hands-on, building role, you'll write code, review code, and be in the weeds on production issues.

Responsibilities:

• Final approver for backend merge requests; you set and hold the quality bar

• Make architecture calls and act as the technical decision-maker when the CTO is unavailable (releases, incidents, escalations)

• Lead root cause analysis on production issues through to resolution

• Coordinate day-to-day engineering work, task assignment, unblocking engineers, sprint-level planning

• Onboard new engineers and mentor the team through code review and technical design discussions

• Design and build backend services and APIs for our messaging and AI platform

• Own integrations with WhatsApp Business API, Instagram, LINE, Telegram, and payment/CRM partners

• Optimize for high-concurrency, real-time messaging workloads

Note: This role carries technical supervision, not full people management. Performance reviews and career conversations stay with the CTO.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including time at senior level

• Strong in Node.js ; Python is a plus

• Experience leading or informally supervising a small engineering team (3–4 people across backend and infra), you don't need to have held the title, but you should have carried the responsibility

• Solid with PostgreSQL, RESTful API design, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS)

• Comfortable owning code review standards and making calls without a fully complete spec.

Nice to Have:

Messaging/chatbot or real-time systems experience, LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), voice tech (STT/TTS, WebRTC), Python for AI/ML pipelines
