Backend Software Engineer (Python / Node.js / Java) Associate Consultant (2-4 Years Experience, 1 Year Contract)

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our team in developing and enhancing a large-scale analytics platform supporting Singapore's public transport operations.

The platform consolidates data from fleet management systems, onboard devices, and operational systems to enable data-driven decision-making, predictive maintenance, and AI-enabled insights.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to develop scalable backend services, APIs, and system integrations, contributing to the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and maintainable backend services, RESTful APIs, and microservices.
• Build and enhance backend integration components connecting applications, devices, and data sources.
• Develop backend services supporting data processing, transformation, and analytics workflows.
• Design, manage, and optimise relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query performance, and data integrity.
• Implement message queues, event-driven processing, and asynchronous communication between systems.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native applications on AWS, leveraging containerisation and modern deployment practices.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, logging, monitoring, and application security best practices.
• Investigate and resolve application, performance, and integration issues to ensure system reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code, and participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Support automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and production operations.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, data engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver technical solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation and participate in Agile development activities.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of relevant experience in backend software development.
• Strong programming proficiency in at least one of Python, Node.js, or Java .
• Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend integration services.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, including database design, SQL queries, and data integrity.
• Familiarity with message queues, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
• Experience developing or deploying cloud-native applications on AWS .
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerised application environments.
• Experience with GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development methodologies.
• Good understanding of software design principles, application architecture, and secure coding practices.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience developing backend services for data-intensive applications or analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with application monitoring, observability, and performance optimisation.
• Exposure to real-time data processing, IoT integrations, or large-scale enterprise systems.
• Prior experience working on public sector or transport-related technology projects.
