Backend Team Leader – CoolAutomation

About the Role

CoolAutomation, a global leader in HVAC IoT solutions, is seeking a Backend Team Leader to lead and develop a team of backend engineers while building and scaling cloud services that connect, monitor, and optimize HVAC systems worldwide.

You’ll lead a talented team of Backend developers, contribute to architectural decisions, and ensure the reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of our backend services.

You’ll work hands-on with distributed systems that process large-scale telemetry data, enable smart automation, and power advanced analytics.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and mentor a team of 2–4 backend developers.
• Report directly to the VP of R&D.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize backend services in Node.js.
• Define and contribute to backend architecture, technical standards, and best practices.
• Work with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis to design efficient data flows and models.
• Integrate and scale services within AWS (ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, SQS/SNS).
• Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and data teams to deliver high-quality APIs and microservices.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following best practices.
• Contribute to system monitoring, logging, reliability, and performance optimization using Elastic Stack and CloudWatch.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of experience leading a Backend development team, combined with strong hands-on development experience.
• Solid knowledge of Node.js, TypeScript, and RESTful API design.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or MongoDB, and familiarity with Redis caching.
• Understanding of cloud architecture and scalable service design.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in distributed environments.
• Hands-on approach with the ability to balance technical leadership, development, and team mentoring.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with ClickHouse or other analytical databases.
• Familiarity with IoT, device telemetry, or message queues (SQS/SNS).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
