Backend Tech Lead (Node.js / TypeScript)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Join Hexa as a Backend Tech Lead and contribute to the development and evolution of enterprise applications in the financial services sector.

Based in Porto, with a hybrid working model , you will combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership, contributing to the delivery of secure, scalable and maintainable solutions.

You will work in a collaborative Agile environment, supporting technical decisions, mentoring developers and promoting software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead the technical development and continuous improvement of backend applications and integrated solutions.

• Design, develop and maintain APIs, user interfaces, database components and application services.

• Contribute to software architecture decisions, ensuring scalability, performance, security and maintainability.

• Develop high-quality application code, automated unit tests and technical documentation.

• Conduct code reviews and support the resolution of complex technical issues.

• Ensure alignment with Secure Software Development Lifecycle (S-SDLC) practices, including application security and data protection requirements.

• Support the diagnosis and resolution of incidents affecting production applications.

• Mentor developers, promote knowledge sharing and encourage consistent engineering practices.

• Collaborate with development teams, Scrum Masters and project stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.

• Explore the responsible utilization of AI and emerging technologies to improve development efficiency and software quality.

• Contribute to development process optimization and continuous technical improvement.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

At least 5 years of professional experience in software development, including a minimum of 3 years working with APIs and user interfaces.

• Proven experience in application architecture, technical design and the delivery of complex software solutions.

• Experience providing technical guidance, reviewing development work and supporting other engineers.

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Ability to work independently, manage technical priorities and contribute to collaborative decision-making.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with attention to quality, security and maintainability.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions.

• Adaptability, initiative and a continuous learning mindset.

• Experience working in Agile development teams and supporting production applications.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Node.js, TypeScript and JavaScript for application development.

• Angular or comparable JavaScript frameworks for frontend development.

• REST APIs, backend services and application integration.

• Microsoft SQL Server or other relational databases, including SQL queries and stored procedures.

• AWS cloud services, including serverless application development and deployment technologies.

• AWS SAM and CodeDeploy.

• Software architecture, application design and development best practices.

• Secure Software Development Lifecycle (S-SDLC), application security and data protection.

• Agile methodologies, including Scrum.

• Version control systems, including Git and Bitbucket.

• Unit testing, code reviews, debugging and technical documentation.

• AI-assisted software development practices.

• SaaS application development and production support.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Slack or GitHub.

• Knowledge of DevOps principles and practices.

• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

• Familiarity with software delivery automation and continuous improvement practices.
