About the role

Holiday Plaza Hotel is seeking a skilled and passionate Baker to join our culinary team in Cebu City, Cebu. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in delivering exceptional baked goods and pastries to our guests. As a Baker, you will be responsible for creating high-quality breads, cakes, pastries and desserts that meet our guests' expectations and uphold the Hotel's reputation for culinary excellence. Your contributions will directly enhance the dining experience for our valued guests and support the success of our food and beverage operations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and bake a variety of breads, pastries, cakes and desserts according to established recipes and quality standards
• Measure and mix ingredients accurately using appropriate equipment and techniques
• Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure products are baked to perfection
• Decorate cakes and pastries with icing, fillings and garnishes to enhance presentation
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the bakery, including equipment maintenance and proper storage of ingredients
• Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards at all times
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to coordinate timing and presentation of baked goods for service
• Monitor inventory levels and report shortages of baking supplies and ingredients
• Adapt recipes and baking methods to accommodate seasonal variations and guest preferences
• Assist with training and mentoring junior bakery staff when required

What we're looking for

• Completed formal training or qualification in baking and pastry arts from a recognised culinary institution
• Minimum 2-3 years of professional baking experience in a hotel, restaurant or commercial bakery setting
• Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, equipment and food safety practices
• Proficiency in preparing both artisan breads and fine pastries to a high standard
• Excellent attention to detail with a focus on consistency and quality in all baked products
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining product quality, particularly during peak service periods
• Physical stamina and ability to work in a warm bakery environment for extended periods
• Strong time management and organisational skills to meet production deadlines
• Team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
• Knowledge of dietary requirements and ability to prepare specialised baked goods (gluten-free, vegan, etc.) is advantageous
• English proficiency at a level sufficient to communicate with team members and follow written instructions
