About The Hive
The Hive is a community-driven coffee and bakeshop known for our signature cinnamon rolls (we call them cinnies!), incredible coffee & matcha, and the kind of hospitality that makes people feel like regulars from their very first visit.
With beloved shops in Hoboken and Jersey City, we're bringing a little of The Hive magic across the river to our first NYC location in Greenwich Village. We're building a team of bakers who take pride in their craft and in the people they feed.
The Role
As a Baker, you'll be the heartbeat of The Hive's kitchen. You'll be responsible for the cinnamon rolls, cookies, and other baked goods that our guests come back for, and you'll make sure every batch comes out consistent, beautiful, and ready before the doors open, as well as throughout the day. This is a hands-on baking role for someone who loves early mornings, takes the details seriously, and works well alongside a close team.
What You'll Do
- Proof, bake, and finish our cinnamon rolls and cookies to recipe and to our quality standards with accuracy and consistency
- Have the full pastry case ready before opening, keep it stocked through the day, and serve guests at the counter as needed
- Own the daily bake schedule. Anticipate demand, adjust production throughout the day, and balance freshness and availability while minimizing waste
- Follow proofing, baking, and finishing procedures precisely to ensure consistent quality from the first cinny to the last
- Prep for the next day’s bake by making sure the correct quantities of cinnies are pulled for morning proofing
- Maintain a clean, organized back bar, and follow NYC health, safety, and food-handling standards
- Track ingredients, flag low stock, and help with receiving and storing deliveries
- Work closely with the Shop Manager and front-of-house team, and help train new bakers as we grow
- Communicate proactively with our commissary team about inventory, product needs, and any production or quality issues.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of professional baking experience in a bakery, café, restaurant, or hotel
- Strong knowledge of proofing and baking enriched and yeasted doughs; experience with cinnamon rolls or similar is a big plus
- Experience baking cookies and other pastry
- Comfort with proofing, oven management, and baking at high volume during a busy day
- Strong organization, speed, and attention to detail, plus a warm, friendly manner when serving guests
- Ability to work independently in the early morning and as part of a team
- A strong work ethic, and respect for teammates and guests alike
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods and move between the main floor and basement easily.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- NYC Food Protection Certificate (or willingness to obtain one before your start date)
Bonus points: Experience with a new-store opening, pastry or culinary training, customer service experience, or experience with a high-volume retail bakery.
Our Standards
The Hive is warm and welcoming, and we hold a high bar for hard work and for how we treat each other and our guests. We're looking for a baker who takes pride in every tray that leaves the kitchen, keeps a tidy station, and shows up ready for the team every shift.
What We Offer
- $22 to $26 per hour, based on experience
- 401(k)
- Shop discounts
- Hands-on training before opening
- The chance to join a new shop from day one and help build its menu and culture
