About the role
The bakery assistant bridges front-of-house retail service and back-of-house kitchen production. They help head bakers and pastry chefs by handling routine preparation, packaging, and store upkeep so the bakery runs efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients, and help shape or knead dough under a baker's direction.
- Stock shelves and arrange appealing visual displays of fresh bread, cakes, and pastries.
- Monitor stock levels, track ingredient expiry dates, and notify management of low supplies.
- Wash baking trays, sanitize display cases, and instruct cleaners to sweep or mop kitchen and retail floors.
About you
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- State-approved food handler permit or food safety training.
- Ability to stand for long periods (6+ hours) and lift heavy ingredient bags (25 lbs or more).
- Basic math for transactions, strong verbal communication, and a detail-oriented approach to following recipes.
- Prior retail or food service experience is preferred.
