**Reports To:** Bakery Porter Team Leader / Bakery Management

**Employment Type:** Full-Time, Permanent

**Pay:** £13.50–£14.10 per hour

**Bonus:** Opportunity to earn up to £3,200 per annum through the Company Performance Bonus Scheme

Pay & Progression

The starting rate for this position is **£13.50 per hour**, rising to **£14.10 per hour following successful completion of probation, required training and demonstration of competency within the role**.

In addition to the hourly rate, there is the opportunity to earn **up to £3,200 per annum through our Company Performance Bonus Scheme**, subject to achievement of the applicable company performance targets and scheme terms.

About the Role

DoughGirl is looking for an organised, reliable and proactive **Bakery Stock Control Operative** to join our Bakery Porter Team.

This is a hands-on role combining stock control responsibilities with the physical movement, organisation and replenishment of ingredients, packaging and manufactured products throughout our bakery.

You will play an important part in ensuring that stock is accurately recorded within our ERP system, Orderwise, and that production teams have the correct ingredients, materials and products available when required.

Working alongside the Bakery Porters, you will help maintain accurate stock records, investigate discrepancies, manage stock movements and support the efficient operation of our manufacturing departments.

**This is not a desk-based stock control position.** You will be expected to work actively within the bakery, handling stock, moving materials and supporting the Porter Team with daily operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Control & Accuracy

  • Maintain accurate stock records within Orderwise.

  • Ensure stock movements are recorded correctly and promptly.

  • Investigate discrepancies between physical stock and system quantities.

  • Carry out regular stock checks and cycle counts.

  • Identify and report stock shortages.

  • Check that products and ingredients are stored in the correct locations.

  • Investigate incorrectly located or missing stock.

  • Ensure stock adjustments follow company procedures and authorisation requirements.

  • Support investigations into stock losses, wastage and unexplained variances.

  • Assist with periodic and full stocktakes.

  • Help improve stock accuracy across the bakery.

Production Stock Management

  • Ensure ingredients and materials are available to support daily production plans.

  • Check stock availability against manufacturing requirements.

  • Work with Bakery Management to identify potential shortages before they affect production.

  • Ensure stock is correctly allocated and recorded against manufacturing work orders.

  • Support accurate recording of ingredients and components used in production.

  • Investigate differences between expected and actual material usage.

  • Ensure unused ingredients and materials are returned to the correct locations and recorded appropriately.

  • Monitor work-in-progress and manufactured stock movements.

  • Help prevent unnecessary production delays caused by stock issues.

Orderwise & System Responsibilities

  • Use Orderwise to check stock quantities and locations.

  • Record stock transfers and movements.

  • Support accurate manufacturing stock transactions.

  • Investigate system stock discrepancies.

  • Check product codes and stock locations.

  • Identify incorrect or incomplete stock transactions.

  • Work with relevant departments to resolve system-related stock issues.

  • Maintain accurate traceability information.

Training will be provided on the relevant Orderwise functions.

Ingredient & Packaging Replenishment

  • Monitor ingredient and packaging availability within bakery production areas.

  • Replenish stock to designated locations.

  • Ensure production teams have sufficient materials to complete their work.

  • Organise stock in an efficient and accessible manner.

  • Identify low stock levels and communicate replenishment requirements.

  • Ensure materials are correctly labelled and identifiable.

  • Help prevent excessive stock being held within production areas.

  • Maintain good stock rotation.

Bakery Porter Responsibilities

As part of the Bakery Porter Team, you will also support general porter duties, including:

  • Moving ingredients and materials around the bakery.

  • Moving finished and semi-finished products between production areas.

  • Transporting trays, racks, trolleys and other equipment.

  • Supporting the movement of products into and out of chilled or frozen storage.

  • Replenishing production workstations.

  • Removing empty packaging and other materials from production areas.

  • Keeping storage and stockholding areas organised.

  • Assisting with general housekeeping.

  • Supporting other Porter Team members during busy periods.

  • Responding to operational requests from Bakery Management.

All tasks must be carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures.

Stock Rotation & Traceability

  • Follow FIFO and FEFO stock rotation procedures as applicable.

  • Monitor use-by and best-before dates.

  • Ensure stock is correctly labelled.

  • Maintain batch and lot traceability.

  • Identify expired, damaged or unsuitable stock.

  • Report stock approaching its expiry date.

  • Ensure products are stored under the correct conditions.

  • Support investigations involving stock traceability.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of stock issues rather than simply reporting that stock cannot be found.

You will be expected to:

  • Investigate stock discrepancies thoroughly.

  • Check alternative stock locations.

  • Identify why discrepancies have occurred.

  • Work with colleagues to correct problems.

  • Suggest improvements to stock storage and movement.

  • Identify repeated stock errors.

  • Help reduce unnecessary stock movements.

  • Improve stock organisation.

  • Reduce waste caused by incorrect stock handling.

  • Proactively identify potential shortages.

The successful candidate should be comfortable questioning inaccurate information and following problems through to resolution.

Food Safety, Hygiene & Health and Safety

As part of a food manufacturing business, you will be expected to maintain high standards of:

  • Food safety.

  • Personal hygiene.

  • Allergen control.

  • Stock traceability.

  • Product handling.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Confident working with numbers and quantities.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to learn stock management systems.

  • Ability to follow processes accurately.

  • Proactive approach to work.

Desirable

  • Previous stock control experience.

  • Experience within a warehouse or manufacturing environment.

  • Experience using Orderwise or another ERP system.

  • Food manufacturing experience.

  • Understanding of manufacturing work orders.

  • Stocktaking experience.

  • Experience with stock rotation and traceability.

  • Knowledge of FIFO and FEFO principles.

  • Experience with handheld stock terminals.

Previous stock control experience would be beneficial, but applicants with strong organisational skills, good attention to detail and a willingness to learn will also be considered.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be someone who:

  • Takes pride in maintaining accurate stock.

  • Understands the importance of getting quantities right.

  • Is comfortable investigating discrepancies.

  • Works efficiently without compromising accuracy.

  • Is proactive rather than waiting to be instructed.

  • Communicates clearly with colleagues and managers.

  • Understands the importance of production deadlines.

  • Takes responsibility for completing tasks properly.

  • Is willing to support the wider Porter Team.

  • Can balance physical operational duties with accurate system administration.

Performance within the role will be assessed against:

Working Hours

This is a **full-time, permanent position**.

Working hours will be based around the operational requirements of the bakery, with flexibility required during busy production periods.

How to Apply

If you're organised, detail-focused and enjoy combining practical work with stock control responsibilities, we'd like to hear from you.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your stock control and manufacturing knowledge while playing an important role in supporting a busy and growing bakery operation.

One recommendation: I would make stock accuracy and Orderwise transaction accuracy the two main performance measures for this role, alongside ensuring production never loses time because available ingredients cannot be located. That gives the position clear accountability beyond general porter duties.
