Band Saw Operator – Pipe Fabrication & Preparation

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Band Saw Operator to join our pipe fabrication team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately cutting, preparing, and beveling pipe and associated fabrication components in accordance with drawings, specifications, and production requirements.

The successful candidate will have a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and safety, with the ability to work confidently with band saws, pipe beveling equipment, hand tools, and associated fabrication machinery. Responsibilities

• Set up and operate band saw machinery to accurately cut pipe, tube, and other fabrication materials to specified lengths.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, cutting lists, measurements, and job specifications.
• Measure, mark, and identify pipe accurately using tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring equipment.
• Select appropriate saw blades, speeds, feeds, and machine settings for different pipe sizes, wall thicknesses, and materials.
• Operate pipe beveling machines to prepare pipe ends for welding and fabrication.
• Set up and adjust beveling equipment to achieve the required bevel angle, root face, and dimensions in accordance with welding and fabrication specifications.
• Inspect cut and beveled pipe to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with required tolerances.
• Remove burrs, sharp edges, scale, and other imperfections using grinders, files, and hand tools.
• Ensure pipe ends are clean and properly prepared for subsequent fit-up and welding operations.
• Identify and report material defects, incorrect dimensions, or quality issues.
• Safely handle, move, and position pipe and fabrication components using appropriate lifting and handling equipment.
• Maintain band saws, beveling machines, tooling, and work areas in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
• Carry out basic machine adjustments and routine maintenance as required.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and safe machine-operating practices.
• Assist with general pipe fabrication, preparation, and assembly activities when required.
• Work closely with welders, fabricators, and production personnel to maintain an efficient workflow and meet production schedules.

Experience & Skills

• Previous experience operating a band saw in a pipe fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience cutting carbon steel pipe, stainless steel pipe, tube, or other metal products would be advantageous.
• Previous experience using pipe beveling machines or end-preparation equipment is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of pipe measurements, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication requirements.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, cutting lists, and job specifications.
• Knowledge of pipe preparation for welding, including bevel angles, root faces, and fit-up requirements.
• Competent with grinders, hand tools, measuring equipment, and other workshop equipment.
• Basic mechanical knowledge, including machine setup, tooling changes, adjustments, and routine maintenance.
• Good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a fabrication team.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to work to production deadlines.

Pay: £15.00-£18.00 per hour
