Bank Controller

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bank Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and financial analysis for a small community bank. The ideal candidate will have strong senior-level accounting experience within a community banking environment, with a comprehensive understanding of bank accounting, loan accounting, investment portfolio reporting, regulatory requirements, and financial controls.

The Controller will lead the accounting function, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, coordinate audits and regulatory examinations, and provide strategic financial insights to executive leadership. This role requires hands-on expertise in GAAP, CECL, Call Reports, FDIC requirements, and banking accounting systems, including Prologue.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of accounting and finance experience within banking or financial services.
• Demonstrated Controller-level, Assistant Controller, or senior-level accounting experience within a small community bank . Experience exclusively with large banks is not sufficient.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience in bank accounting, loan accounting, investment accounting, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
• Proven expertise in month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, CECL, Call Reports, and bank regulatory reporting.
• Working knowledge of FDIC, Federal Reserve, and OCC regulations and reporting requirements, as applicable.
• Experience with the Prologue accounting application.
• Experience supporting internal and external audits and regulatory examinations.
• Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, liquidity management, capital ratio monitoring, and tax compliance.
• Proficiency in banking software, ERP systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Demonstrated leadership, staff supervision, mentoring, and team management capabilities.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights to executive management.
