What they need

Sugar Bowl Resort is seeking an energetic, outgoing, and guest-focused Bar Back to join our Food and Beverage team and keep our bar and lounge running at its best. You’ll be the backbone of the bar, stocking supplies, preparing garnishes, syrups, and batched cocktails, keeping the bar, lounge, and equipment spotless, and supporting our bartenders and cocktail servers as directed. If you have a friendly personality, take pride in great guest service, and enjoy being part of a team, we’d love to have you on board. We’re hiring for both full-time and part-time positions.

Why Sugar Bowl?

Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Situated atop beautiful Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl has a storied past with ties to Austrian ski culture, Hollywood and Walt Disney. This special community helped bring skiing to “sunny California” since December 1939. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts alike.

Who You Are:

  • At least 21 years of age

  • An outgoing personality with a knack for making every guest feel right at home

  • Excellent guest service skills and a real passion for creating memorable experiences

  • Clear, effective communication in English, keeping bartenders, servers, and guests in the loop

  • Previous cash handling experience is a plus

  • Open to learning new skills and supporting other departments as needed; a versatile, team-first mindset

What You’ll Do:

  • Keep the bar cold and ready to pour by stocking ice

  • Get creative behind the scenes by preparing fruit trays, syrups, and garnishes

  • Batch cocktails that keep the drinks flowing and the guests happy

  • Keep the bar fully loaded by restocking beer, liquor, wine, glassware, mixers, and more

  • Change kegs in the cooler so the taps never run dry

  • Assist with product receiving and rotation to keep everything fresh and organized

  • Keep storage facilities, coolers, and loading dock areas clean and organized

  • Keep the bar area fresh by removing trash and recycling

  • Keep the bar and storage areas spotless at all times

  • Wash and stock glasses so every pour looks its best

  • Help open and close the bar areas, setting the stage for great service

  • Run drinks to guests with a smile

  • Be the go-to teammate for bar staff and wait staff, assisting with all requests

  • May pitch in with bussing as needed

  • May lend a hand with snow removal

  • Cross-train and lend a hand in other departments as needed, building a broader understanding of resort operations.

  • Take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills across the resort, supporting a well-rounded, team-first approach to the guest experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable standing and walking for 8–10 hour shifts

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs

  • Comfortable working with hands in ice for extended periods

  • Nimble hands and fingers for register/beverage gun operation, glassware handling, and precise liquor measurement

  • Comfortable working in tight, fast-paced spaces behind the bar

  • Basic math skills for accurate cash handling and inventory counts

  • Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to manage a busy bar and respond quickly to guest needs

Winter Benefits:

  • Employer sponsored 401k plan after 1,000 worked hours and one (1) year of service
