BAR MANAGER – FULL TIME

Malo Restaurant | Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay

Malo is a premium restaurant in the heart of Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay, known for exceptional food, quality local produce, an extensive wine offering and a relaxed but professional dining experience.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Bar Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our bar and beverage programme.

This is a hands-on management role suited to someone who has strong knowledge of wine, spirits and cocktails, enjoys leading a team and takes pride in delivering exceptional service.

The Role

As Bar Manager, you will be responsible for the effective operation and development of Malo's bar and beverage service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the day-to-day operation of the bar.
• Leading, supervising and training bar and front-of-house staff.
• Maintaining and developing Malo's wine, spirits, cocktail and beverage offering.
• Supporting the development of cocktail and beverage menus.
• Managing beverage ordering, stock levels and inventory.
• Conducting regular stocktakes and monitoring beverage costs, margins and wastage.
• Maintaining strong relationships with beverage suppliers.
• Managing the bar roster and ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
• Ensuring consistently high standards of beverage service and customer experience.
• Ensuring compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, liquor license conditions and Malo's Host Responsibility Policy.
• Training staff in responsible alcohol service and host responsibility.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation, health and safety.
• Working closely with the restaurant management and kitchen teams.
• Assisting with functions, events and special beverage promotions.
• Contributing to the ongoing development and commercial performance of Malo's beverage programme.

About You

The successful applicant will have:

• At least 5 years' relevant experience in a quality bar, restaurant or hospitality environment.
• Demonstrated experience in a bar management or senior supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of wine, spirits, cocktails and beverage service.
• Experience leading, training and developing hospitality staff.
• Experience with beverage ordering, stock control and cost management.
• A sound understanding of responsible alcohol service and New Zealand liquor licensing requirements.
• Excellent communication, organisation and customer service skills.
• A professional and positive approach to hospitality.
• The ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required by the roster.

Relevant hospitality or beverage qualifications are advantageous, but demonstrated industry experience and management capability are essential.

Position: Bar Manager
Employment: Permanent, full-time
Pay: $32.00–$36.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience, management capability and demonstrated beverage knowledge**.**

Guaranteed hours: Minimum 32 hours per week
Expected hours: minimum of 32–40 hours per week, depending on operational requirements and the roster
