Position: Bar Supervisor

Location: The Tap on Mitchell

Employment: Full-time, Permanent

Award/Salary: $83,000 per annum plus superannuation

State Date: Negotiable

About Us:

The Tap on Mitchell is a family-owned, fast paced alfresco dining venue that offers something for everyone. From café-style breakfasts to bustling lunches and lively dinners, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming atmosphere where great food, cold drinks, and genuine hospitality come together.

Our venue is built around a beautiful established tree, creating a unique outdoor setting, with Crocosaurus Cove overlooking the venue, adding to the experience. We feature live music every night, serve an extensive range of cocktails – including our famous fishbowls- alongside ice-cold draught beer, alcohol-free options, and a menu designed to cater to a wide variety of guests. We also operate a gaming room, making us a diverse hospitality venue with something happening at all times.

As an entirely outdoor venue in the Top End, you’ll be working in tropical conditions year-round. The climate can be hot and humid, particularly during the build-up and wet season. We are looking for a person who will be comfortable working outdoors while maintaining a positive attitude and delivering exception customer service.

Our team also interacts with a diverse range of patrons and members of the public. Confidence, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential, as you will occasionally be required to de-escalate challenging situations professionally and respectfully while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

If you thrive in a busy, energetic workplace, enjoy working with people, and aren’t afraid of hard work, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Bar Supervisor to oversee the daily operation of our bar and front-of-house team. Reporting to Venue Management, you will play a key role in ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining beverage quality standards and supporting the efficient operation of the venue.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising the daily operation of the bar and front-of-house team during service.
  • Leading, motivating and supporting Bar Attendants and front-of-house staff to deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Assisting with staff scheduling and rostering to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  • Maintaining high standards in the preparation and service of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Preparing and serving cocktails, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages during service when required.
  • Ensuring compliance with Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), gaming legislation and all licensing requirements.
  • Conducting venue opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, reconciliation and security procedures.
  • Monitoring the use of the POS system and ensuring accurate processing of transactions.
  • Managing customer enquiries, complaints and challenging situations professionally and effectively.
  • Supporting the recruitment, training, mentoring and ongoing development of Bar Attendants and front-of-house staff.
  • Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering, stocktake and inventory control for the bar and front-of-house operations.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and hygiene throughout the venue.
  • Working closely with the kitchen and management team to ensure efficient service and operational excellence.
  • Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Leading by example in a fast-paced, high-volume hospitality environment.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least three years' relevant hospitality experience in bar or food and beverage operations, including supervisory responsibilities, or an AQF Certificate III (including at least two years of on-the-job training) or AQF Certificate IV in Hospitality together with relevant industry experience.
  • Previous experience supervising bar or front-of-house operations in a busy hospitality venue.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong knowledge of beverage service, Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements and venue licensing obligations.
  • Experience with stock control, inventory management and cash handling procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • A current RSA, RSG, Gaming Machine Manager's Licence (or the ability to obtain one), First Aid Certificate and Food Safety Certificate.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive and friendly team environment.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Opportunities for career progression.
  • Competitive salary and employee benefits.
  • The opportunity to work in one of Darwin's most iconic outdoor hospitality venues.
